Hello all!

I will be attending session two of NASS and the date is approaching quickly. I have a few questions I was seeking advice on.
1. What would you recommend wearing to the Academy on the first day?
2. Is there anything not on the packing list you would recommend bringing?
3. Did they make you learn anything that you wish you had pre-memorized?

Thanks for all the help. Any other tips or stories would be greatly appreciated!

Advice based on DD’s experience a couple years ago.

1. Wear something comfortable and conservative. It’ll probably be hot and humid. Shorts are OK, as are leggings or pants. Polo shirt or T-shirt are OK too. Just nothing provocative or revealing.

2. Don’t bring more than they tell you to bring. You’ll get plenty of stuff there. The one exception is a plastic garbage bag for bringing home the gross and grimy and damp sweatpants that you wore while rolling on the banks of the Severn.

3. No need to memorize anything beforehand. Nothing is expected of you except a good attitude and a willingness to engage.

Perfect !
Go with an open mind and desire to learn. Some will attend knowing that USNA is perfect for them, but change their mind. Others will attend, maybe thinking that the trade school on the Hudson is their first choice, but recognize the opportunities in the Navy. Go, have fun, learn..meet people, and come home energized to complete your application and earn that BFE.

Agree 100% with your post, @Old Navy BGO.

DD just knew that USNA was the perfect place for her. But the week before NASS, she attended SLE at that trade school on the Hudson and loved the experience. It opened her eyes. She returned from NASS feeling no less strong about USNA, but also had a newfound option in USMA. When BFEs arrived for both, she was genuinely torn for a while, but committed to her first love.

Bottom line is, she had options, all because she had an open mind and was willing to engage.

I appreciate all the responses. I will make sure to be open to the experience and hope that I’ll come out loving USNA more!
