Son was accepted to summer session. I am wondering what the odds are it will happen this year. He is definitely looking forward to it so hopefully it goes on as planned.

Unless it doesn’t. As they say on the Yard and in the Fleet: Semper Gumby...always flexible.
Certainly hope it does. DS was selected to work SS as his Block 1 training. His squad leader from SS when he attended was instrumental in convincing him the Naval Academy was a path for him. He's looking to return the favor with this year's group.

I'm a 1/C, our online classes started today.

The single biggest priority of the Superintendent and his staff is graduating the Class of 2020 on time with their degrees. It is absolutely paramount that they report to their follow-on trainings (TBS, Flight School, BDOC, etc) on time. Failure to do so results in 1,000+ commissioned officers not reporting to where they are supposed to, which becomes a manning issue.

Summer trainings for all Midshipmen for Block 0 & Block 1 has been cancelled.

I'm sure they will let people know at some point, but NASS is the least of USNA's worries at this point in time.

NASS is a Bock 1 training for Midshipmen right? If it’s canceled I assume NASS is as well? Or am I jumping the gun on this?

Too early to tell at this point in time.

Three main focuses of USNA (other than the health and well-being of the Midshipmen):

1. Graduating the Class of 2020 on time.
2. Inducting the Class of 2024 on time.
3. Academics must resume to minimize the impact it will have on Midshipman summer trainings. This primarily is in reference to the Class of 2021, who must attend Leatherneck, SOAS and other key career-determining summer trainings that will drastically affect their Service Assignments come this November.

All other functions will be secondary. NASS is primarily a 3/C training, which won't be significantly high on the totem pole.

Again, too early to tell at this time & it is most likely not on the Superintendent's radar currently.

These are my two cents as a Midshipman Firstie.

This is JMHO, and I in now way know what is going to occur, BUT in the grand scheme of things NASS, and Summer Stem are not priorities of the Academy during this trying time. Graduating the Class of 2020, inducting the Class of 2024 and making sure the Classes there progress ARE the priorities. It is too soon to tell, but "Big Navy" has NROTC, USNA, and Operational Readiness to be concerned about, if there is ANY leftover Covig-19 infections ongoing into the summer, I would personally not count on the HS programs taking place due to the priorities of the health of the prospective Officer Corps and Staff/Faculty.

Lets all hope this is over soon, and everything returns to a sembalance of normal before all these programs are impacted. Think about those slated to graduate (both USNA and NROTC) and the fact that they may end up just being handed a diploma, gold bars, and orders....without family, friends, or recognition.....

Companies, businesses, schools, military...all are prioritizing and executing plans that have many moving parts, as parameters change almost daily.

Listen to the Supe above. He is very clear the current focus of USNA. Running summer recruiting programs is not one of them. I would not be surprised if they are cancelled. But no way to know today. Unless this is over, bringing in thousands of high schoolers from around the country, and being responsible for their health amidst this pandemic isn’t even a responsibility that makes sense to me. And would parents want to send kiddos? Not me. So prepare mentally. There really isnt a hard YES or NO at this point.

My Mid (as others) is home “indefinitely”. Wondering if he will see his firstie buddies again. (My high school senior is home “indefinitely” as his senior year crumbles away...award nights. Track season. Prom. Graduation.... My daughters wedding is cancelled And all that is through the end of May for sure). Logistically, getting the entire brigade back and USNA up and running again as “normal” is going to take some time and effort.

These times are unprecedented. So there is no basis to pull from. Listen to USNA, they will make their decisions and make it known through official sources. When the time is right.

Hang in there!! This is hard for EVERYONE.

I got an email yesterday from USNA saying that it was still on...but still no response as to if I am in or not! I guess it all just depends on how things progress from here on out.

Where did you get your information that all 0Block and 1Block training has been cancelled? My Mid did not receive an email stating that to be the case.

I think that everyone would do well to keep their information close to their chests, here. If it's not public knowledge (something posted on the USNA.edu website) then it shouldn't be made to be public knowledge on this forum.

If you hear something from your squad leader, company commander, or company officer you should consider that this information is only for you and the rest of your shipmates, unless explicitly instructed otherwise.

Bookmark that. Official word. There is a section for Mids, parents, and cancellations (among others).

They were? My mid says that he has no email to that effect, so I am confused. Can you clarify the source of this info? (Like maybe this news is not out in all the Companies? Or...?) Thanks!
