NASS Application

Don't worry about it, it's about time I give my refresh button a break anyway- I feel bad for the poor little guy.

well, it's still not up. guess i'll just have to continue stalking the website at lunch today! but good luck for whenever you guys get the chance to fill it out! :)

For the courses taken part of the application, does the course need to be completed, or just started?

"Grade Summary: Accurately list the grades you have received in the classes listed. If you are currently taking any of these, provide the grade you hold right now or realistically anticipate. Check the corresponding box marked "IB/AP/H" if you are taking any of these classes at the honors, AP, or baccalaureate level. If you have received a "D" or "F" in any of these classes, answer "C" but explain in the remarks section."

Sessions I Can Go to...

Good luck to everyone applying, but I have one question for you guys. On the application where it says, list the sessions you can definitely attend, should I say yes to session 2 if I might still be in school? I have heard that some students were able to miss school for the summer seminar, like they asked their school to change their final exam schedule. I was wondering if I should say know for session 2 but I don't want to say no if that will hurt my chances of getting in, like I would gladly skip school to go to NASS. Thanks everyone!

I'm from New Jersey and we don't end school until the end of june, so unfortunately I'll have to miss some school if I get in. I'll probably put down the first 2 weeks.

By the way, are the comments portions of the application there so that you can list all of the stuff you have accomplished?

The more options in terms of weeks you can attend NASS, the better your chances. Week 3 is generally the most "popular," and week 1 is usually the least popular b/c a lot of folks are still in school.

HOWEVER, if you put down a week in which you'll still be in school, ensure that you can get of of school to attend. In some cases, people can switch weeks, but it can be difficult. So, if you say week 2, are accepted for week 2, and then can't do week 2 b/c of school, you may well be out of luck.

My recommendation is that unless you know for sure that you can attend a session at the time you fill out the application, don't mark that you can attend it. It's unfair to the Admissions Office and other NASS candidates.

**If you "think" you might be able to miss school for a session, you should inform your school about the program and seek a verbal commitment for missing school during the specific NASS session. You can always notify the Admissions Office of the ability to attend another session after you submit the application, which may or may not increase selection. Doing it the other way around is bad business; don't signup for a session that you cannot commit to later on, with the exception of extenuating circumstances or events out of your control/knowledge.**

Thank you, I'll be sure to meet with my guidance counselor ASAP. And I love how they close off their first email to you with good 'ole "beat army!"

Hey guys. My first semester doesn't end until Friday next week. Do you think it would be smarter to wait for my semester to end, which would give me a better GPA and ECAs, or do you think I should appply for NASS now. In other words, do you think the advantage of applying within the first 24 hours outweighs a .1ish GPA increase and a couple more ECAs in two weeks? Thanks.

I'm in the same boat, and don't get my semester 1 grades until the middle of January. But, I don't think it asks for your GPA. It was just a list of courses and the you had to put down your grade for them. So as for that, I wouldn't worry about it. With the ECAs, if you are already committed to them, you might as well list them. Also, how many ECAs can you add in 2 weeks? haha
