NASS Application

I'm in the same boat, and don't get my semester 1 grades until the middle of January. But, I don't think it asks for your GPA. It was just a list of courses and the you had to put down your grade for them. So as for that, I wouldn't worry about it. With the ECAs, if you are already committed to them, you might as well list them. Also, how many ECAs can you add in 2 weeks? haha
Haha I know it doesn't seem like I could add many could I? But no, I'm signing up for band and another club, and possibly founding one:)

I applied earlier today, and I was just wondering what everyone's stats look like. I'll kick it off, hopefully I'm not too far off from what is needed!

I wish they looked at all the ACT Subscores, because my highest are Reading (35) and Science (33). Oh well..

ACT Math: 29
ACT English 32

English 9, 10, 11: Honors, A
Algebra I, II, Geometry: Honors, A
Trigonometry: College level (Western Kentucky University), B
Calculus I: College level (WKU), A
Chemistry: College level (WKU), A

1 Varsity Sport w/ Letter
2 Special Awards
Intramural Soccer at WKU

Community Service, Robotics Club, NHS, Church youth group, Academic Team

Good luck to everyone!

NHS??

I am currently a junior, along with many of you. However, my school does not determine NHS until second semester of your junior year, and so I do not know if I will be inducted. At my school, you have to have the grades, which I already have above the required GPA, but you also have to apply by writing a short essay. I did not put down NHS on my NASS application because I am not part of NHS obviously yet but I am almost 100% certain I will join NHS when second semester comes along. Should I have said I am a part of NHS or did I make the right call leaving that blank-though they don't know the background to why I am not part of NHS.

I just finished my app, and you're looking more impressive than me right now!

Do you know if we can go back and update this application after we send it in kind of like the air force one, or is it set in stone when you press submit?
It said after I applied that I could only change it through the admissions office, but I don't know what that entails.

I would have mentioned the difference with your NHS program in the special remarks column. I personally only think it would have helped, not harmed. I had to mention the difference with my math courses. We don't have individual "Geometry", "Pre-Calculus", etc. Ours are integrated. I have covered the material, which is apparent since I am in AP Calc, but I clarified to be safe. :)

I don't think you should be intimidated! :) You have 2 part-time jobs...aka less time to devote to athletics...and you are still on varsity swim.

I'm in the same boat as you are. My school doesn't announce NHS until around April and it depends on several factors, not just grades. I thought I'd rather be safe than sorry so I just didn't put it down. It probably would've helped mentioning it in the remarks (too late now), but I don't think it's that big of a deal as long as you had some other clubs on there and a good amount of info in the comments section.

I'm a full time WKU student, living in a residence hall and everything. It's a special program in Kentucky where basically a select group of students get to finish 11th and 12th grades by taking the courses at WKU.

www.wku.edu/academy is the website link if you're are curious about specifics.

Is there any way of checking your NASS application status? How will we be notified (email, phone, mail, etc.)?

No

Remember, NASS apps are often driven by niche needs. So DO NOT equate acceptance or rejection to NASS as somehow equivalent to the application to USNA. Despite having substantial overlap in assessing candidates, they ain't the same.

And btw, the BGO lagging in current "opening day" for applying to USNA? Not uncommon. BGOs are only volunteers. Some work their tails off, working to be generally and specifically informed and informative. Others are, well, volunteers. Like all the pretty and not-so young ladies met in all those foreign ports to come, "Bless 'em all", recognizing the reality of "no free lunch."

Prest477, DS was told the same thing by his BGO. I just happened to be skimming these forums on the 4th and discovered it had opened and we were able to get his app submitted that afternoon. I'm guessing you are working on yours right this minute! Good luck!
