NASS CFA question

CFA results are shared

I believe that CFA results can be used at any SA or ROTC/NROTC program that one applies to.

CFA

Can you use your CFA results for a different Academy if you do not go to their summer program?

My understanding is that you can use the CFA given at NASS or West Point SLE for the other SAs. However, USAFA does not give the CFA during their summer seminar (because of the altitude).
And I don't think that the USCGA summer program fitness test is the CFA.

My DS only took CFA at NASS and was able to transfer it to West Point. I am sure if he had applied to USAFA they would have accepted his CFA scores as well. DS was also told right away that he passed by his NASS squad leader.

ROTC testing is different- only sit-ups, pushups and run. DS had to retest for that.

Can someone tell me how you go about using your NASS CFA Scores for other Academy applications? Do they give you a printed result? I understand that one can be used for each academy, just wondering how to do that.

Thanks,

Thanks,

DS took CFA at NASS last summer. When he opened up his application to USMA he contacted the Admissions Officer in charge of our region via email and asked if USMA could use his CFA scores from USNA. The admissions office contacted USNA admissions and obtained the scores.

DS did better on his NASS CFA than his SLE CFA so he emailed USNA and asked them to send his scores to USMA. They did. Easy as can be.

So, on the REQUIRED APPLICATION DOCUMENTS on the Candidate's admission page, if it states the date of the CFA, does that mean that the candidate passed, or simply that they took the test that day???

It says the same thing on mine, and I know I passed. For your other question, I had mine faxed to the other Academies the day after I left, just send your Admissions Officer an email and they'll do it for you.

I don't think the Naval Academy has ever advertised any minimal passing standards for the CFA - if any even exist.

One of my sons who attended NASS back in 2008 (his twin brother elected not to attend) only did 2 pull-ups. He was never told whether he passed or not. He never took the CFA again.

He graduated from USNA this past May and never came close to failing a PRT (Physical Readiness Test) in 4 yrs. Pull-ups are not part of the PRT - which is a good thing because he sucks at pull-ups.

Our personal experience is that the CFA is not very important. It's much more important that you have participated in sports. Both my sons were 4-yr varsity baseball players. They even attended the Naval Academy's baseball camp after their Sophomore year.

How many pull-ups do you think some of those 260lb offensive linemen can do? Or how many sit-ups do you think they can do in 2 minutes? For some candidates - it doesn't really matter.

No News Good News?

Interesting! So if the scores are listed as 'recorded' and no one notifies you that you need to take it again, it looks like the assumption was that you passed. Wonder if that is still the same today?

Have not talked to her much, but it seems that she likes NASS and USNA...but is not sure about the long term commitment beyond USNA. She is going to have to think that through. She is trying to remember that NASS is a camp...but to look beyond that and remember that going to USNA would be joining the military, not just 'going to college at USNA'.

The people and activities and physical demands of NASS have been great, but she is trying to think about the huge lifestyle change this would mean. This is terribly hard to do when for a kid like her whose first and only exposure to the military is NASS. She is having to keep in mind that NASS is not what USNA will be...and that USNA is not the end of things...

I am hoping she is not over analyzing and missing some FUN!!!

She if off to USAFA next. One of her roommates came to NASS directly from SLE and then goes right to USAFAss...then to AIM in JULY!!! She said already she is glad to go to all because the feels of WP and USNA, for instance, are very different to her and she prefers WP (likes USNA...but loved the history, discipline and more extreme -in her view- military feel of WP). What a learning experience this all is!!!
