I have to choose between boys state and summer seminar because they would fall on the same week for me and I was wondering which would be better to go to. Thank you

Boys State.

Boys State will increase your leadership score, NASS has no impact on admission to USNA.
The main reason to choose NASS over boys state is help you decide if USNA is the right school for you.

I was simply going to "like" all the Boy's State posts above from my forum colleagues but then decided that there's strength in numbers for the benefit of the OP.......Boy's State ....by country mile.

Eagle Scout and Boys state are the same point value, ya? But they can stack to the higher rating?

Yes, based on an old study on USMA admissions, both Attending Boys State and becoming an Eagle Scout have the same value and they stack. In addition participating in Boys Nation get additional points that stack.

From page 10 of this Rand Report remember this report is dated from the early to mid 90's so I am sure things have changed. http://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/research_reports/RR700/RR723/RAND_RR723.pdf

Extracurricular Activity Levels and Points
800 Points - An outstanding young person with quadruple participation or honors and awards on selected extracurricular activities (each worth 600 or more points).

700 Points - Student council president. Triple participation or honors and awards in selected extracurricular activities (each worth 600 points). Participation in Boys/Girls Nation.

600 Points - High school class president. Editor-in-chief of a school publication. Participation in Boys/Girls State, president of National Honor Society or recipient of a national or state award. Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts) or Gold Award (Girl Scouts). Triple participation or honors and awards in selected extracurricular activities (each worth 500 points).

500 Points - Holder of one or more elective offices in moderately selective organizations. Participation in activities or recipient of awards in moderately selective organizations. Holder of a private pilot’s license.

400 Points - Participation in activities or recipient of awards in organizations with limited selectivity.

300 Points - Some participation in organized activities.

200 Points - No participation in organized activities. 200

I have heard Boys State mentioned as a great way to enhance your leadership, but what exactly is it? What is the goal of it?

Thank you for those links. Also, is it too late to apply for it?
Maybe. It varies by state. Check with your school. If they say it is too late check with your local American Legion. There may know of openings that your school does not.

Wondering how congressional intern fits into extra curriculars. It is highly selective for high school students, guestimating 500 level?

BOYS STATE!!

While you're there, get involved. Run for office, pass legislature... if you do really well they could ask you back next year as a counselor (huge bonus points for you and a great experience IMO) and if you do really really REALLY well, you could be picked to go to Boys Nation - which is also a Big Deal. S0 go to Boys State.

I don't disagree with the overwhelming support of Boy State over NASS on SAF, though honestly I have never heard of Boy State until I saw it in the forum when I got onboard for the first time last year.

For parents of those who are still a sophomore or even younger: if their schedule allows, I'd encourage your children to get involved with student council early on in their school and work towards district, or even at the state level if that is available. The rank of Eagle Scout is obviously a very nice achievement for a scout, and being elected as the Senior Patrol Leader and lead the troop for 6 months or longer will probably get a lot of points too. IMHO these should have more points than going to Boy State for a week. I can't comment on old study about USMA admissions though.
