NASS rejection, next step?

Funny, neither son has received a candidate number in the mail, as I've read so many here have.

Puzzling, no contact since NASS denial letters

Did the rejection letter state that they were considered competative enough and that a candidate number would be forth coming in the mail? My son is on NASS waitlist and he received a number already in the mail. Two of his friends got rejections. One had the statement about being competative enough and the other friends just stated thanks for applying.

?

I don't recall but, I believe it said something about "don't be discouraged".

My wife threw the letters out. As for being competitive, yes I believe so according to general criteria I've seen here. One has gotten "fishing" letters from Ivy League schools based on his ACT/PSAT scores and USNA was included as a school to have results sent.

Found letter

Whaddyaknow, found rejection letters. Identical form letter to both sons, "You'll receive further info in May explaining next steps in process to apply to USNA".
No candidate number on either.

Don't worry, my son did not get into NASS last year, but will be there on I-day this year.

A word of advice to all 2015 candidates and parents, please keep all paperwork associated with USNA from here on out if you are serious about applying. Keep anything you receive and copy anything you send out. You will be surprised at the things you need to refer back to in the next year as you fill out more and more forms and then wait, and wait, and wait...

Good luck to all!

My son didn't get into NASS either and is now in the Class of 2014. He received his candidate number during the first week of June. At that time, he spoke with his Math and English teachers to get their summer email addresses or phone numbers so that he could have contact with them through the process in the summer months. He applied for the NROTC scholarship as well and needed the same teachers for recommendations. It is all done via email so be sure that your son gets with his teachers before he leaves school for the summer! It's great to get as much of the paperwork done during the summer that you can. It makes the start of the senior year a lot smoother. That is if your son is going to use teachers from his Junior year. He can use senior year teachers but it delays the application process.
