NASS. Still haven't heard anything

Yes, much appreciate all the insight from everyone here. Our first contact with the Academy has been to apply to NASS in preparation for class of 2022. To those who have done CVW already how did you get invited? Thanks.

For CVW, all I know is that the USNA sent me an email for me to attend in January. I think this is because I had already signed up for the STEM camps a few times and had contacted my BGO about attending.

DD just got accepted into session 3. They called yesterday night needing a physical saying she was cleared for all activity by noon today. It's not like she applied Feb 8th or anything. She is wait listed at USMA and waiting to hear back from Norwich Cyber.

My daughter received her acceptance letter 2/28/17. It came without warning so don't get discouraged. Also if you do get accepted & need to request info or a change make sure you do it & not your parents. I got a good scolding for contacting them for my daughter. Good luck to you, don't give up.

My son also got rejection email today, but is looking forward to SLE this summer and moving forward with USNA application.

I applied in February for the NASS and haven't heard anything since. A friend of mine who applied at the same time got in within the first few weeks of us applying but I haven't heard wether I have been accepted or rejected.

Either way, if I receive session 2 I can't go because of Boys State, so I won't be too bummed out if I'm not accepted.

When should I expect to hear anything from the USNA about NASS?

We just received our daughter's acceptance for Session 3 NASS email last night at 6:30pm. Watch your email!!!!

I just found out that I got rejected but that won't bother me because I know the plenty of midshipmen at the academy never went to summer seminar. Also I have already attended CVW at the academy so I have a pretty good idea of what the academy has to offer me.

Wish me luck and good luck to those in the 2022 cycle!

Our DS was wait listed for NASS summer of 2016 (applying for Class of 2021). He thought it was a reflection on his potential candidacy but after talking to a BGO, we understood that there was a lot more to NASS than it being for potential officers. More often than not, the NASS is for the demographic that is either under-served/under-exposed or has no idea what the SA is all about. After all, our DS had done a camp there, we did visit and go on a tour, so there was some exposure. It's also a way for the SA to determine if someone, who's metrics may look favorable on paper, has the potential for other aspects needed to be an officer. Maybe he/she is a great student, but doesn't have the physical aptitude or leadership (or as former USNA/Navy Seal Coleman Ruiz would say "followership") capability necessary. It will, however, either reinforce a candidates decision (positively or negatively) or possibly influence admissions for some of those other folks. I promise you that the kids at NASS are watched/judged/scored the entire time. Subsequently, be assured that acceptance to the NASS has absolutely no bearing on acceptance to USNA because our DS was appointed in December a week after his MOC nomination.

NASS acceptances aren't really a good indicator of whether or not you'll get in. I'm from a pretty competitive area and got in off the waitlist for NASS, but a pretty quick LOA after putting in my application in the early fall. A huge number of my midshipman friends didn't get NASS slots at all.

You should probably also know that we frequently call it "Summer Scaminar" because it does a good job of highlighting fun things here you might only do once or twice as a midshipman while glossing over a lot of the day-to-day drudgery associated with both Plebe Summer and life during the Academic Year.

NASS is a recruiting tool, CVW gives you a much better view of what plebe year will actually look like. If you or your kid is on the fence about whether applying is worth it, go for a CVW slot as well. However, NASS candidates have evaluations submitted by their squad leaders while there's no evaluation done of CVW participants.

I've posted about this before too. My 1/class mid did not get accepted to NASS.
He initially took it as a bad sign. He was invited to CVW, except he was unable to attend the
weekends offered to him until after well he received his appointment in early November, 2013.
Don't read anything into NASS acceptance.
Both of my mids roommates are also in the NASS rejection club.
