NASS

Thank you NavySupporter and everyone else who has helped me so far! I just called the Naval Academy Admissions department and I got accepted to NASS II!!!! Congratulations to everyone else who got in and also good luck to all of the class of 2013 candidates!
Respectfully,
Kathleen

Congratulations to you and all the other candidates! I remember what a WOW! moment it was when my daugher got the word. Enjoy the glow and be prepared for the begining of a very interesting ride and the potential to fullfill your dream.

You are correct on past years. However, my mid will be a SS cadre this summer. Part of her application process stated that since SS was the No. 1 recruitment tool, they were going to admit 2700 this year vs. 2100 last year. It's a change and they needed to have the correct number of cadre to handle the increase.

You may soon realize that the midshipman rumor pool is often not the best source of factual information. Summer Seminar in 2006 was 1855 students, 2007 was 1845, and this summer will be somewhere between 2100 and 2220, depending on interest and qualifications.

A few interesting statistics:

http://www.usna.com/NetCommunity/Document.Doc?&id=544

This from the current Admissions website:

Summer Seminar is a competitive program and can only accommodate 650 students in each of the three sessions (1,950 total).

This from a Feb 1, USNA News Release:

On February 1, 2008, the United States Naval Academy began online application for current juniors (current high school class of 2009) to apply for our Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) Program. If you are not fully familiar with our NASS Program, it is a six day immersion program that runs the first three weeks of June in three sessions (Sessions I - 5/31 to 6/5, II 6/7 to 6/12, III - 6/14 to 6/19). Participating in each session will be 740 of the nations top rising seniors! We want to get the word out to the best and brightest around the United States to come to NASS and hopefully become a midshipman at USNA! We need your help reaching these young men and women and encouraging them to participate in NASS this summer!

I also received an email which, unfortunately I have deleted, which stated that it would be three sessions of 700 each. I have seen nothing higher than the above 740.

Actually, the 2700 figure was part of the application document from the Academic Deans office. USNA 69, it really does not matter if you are correct or I am or the number is somewhere in beween. Like all thing at the academy it's a very competative program, the academy will select what they feel will be the best candidates and letters of acceptance or rejection will go out.

The one item I am 100% sure of is I have a mid that considers USNA home and loves it there and that I'm a super proud dad.

I live in northeastern Pennsylvania and applied for the NASS in early March. I was wondering if anyone in the northeast has heard their news yet. I've been going through the application and nomination process with a close friend but we're both pretty much in the dark on this one.

I still haven't heard anything, but I live in Washington state. Hope I hear soon....

I found out by calling however, I still haven't received a letter yet- they should be here by Tuesday (April 15). Good luck to all of the candidates!
Respectfully,
Kathleen

I live in South Carolina, applied the first day (before noon) and havn't heard anything either. With all respect to the April 15th date, I have no hope of hearing tomorrow. I will be happy to hear by Friday and I have to say I am very unimpressed with the punctuality of the academy in handling this application processes.

I have to say I am very unimpressed with the punctuality of the academy in handling this application processes.

This cracked me up.

If you're looking for a school that works on your schedule, rather than its own, you might want to rethink this Service Academy idea.

I don't expect anyone to work on my schedule, just a slightly faster one than the academy seems to be on. I guess it's a bad habit from ROTC but I am a fan of punctuality and 2 and a half months is not punctual in my book. Though I do agree the military mantra of "hurry up and wait" is a minacing constant you must just come to accept.

Isn't that the truth! And as a word of advice for everyone out there... it just gets worse when you're important, everyone notices if you're late!

Hi I am new here and i was accepted to NASS. just a quick question to make sure, does the CFA administered during the summer seminar count towards your application?

My understanding is that it counts only in the sense that your cadre (the midshipmen who run the seminar) who are going to write an evaluation of you will know your score. I think it would be in your best intrest (regardless of what it counts for) to do the CFA close to the deadline unless you just have super stellar scores so that you have the most time to prepair. The double edged sword with that of course is the chance of injuries.

Yes USAFA17, the CFA during Summer Seminar DOES count toward your application, but if you can boost your scores further down the road then the Naval Academy does accept it (to my knowledge).

I got into SS session II! I'm very excited, obviously. :)
anyone else going to that session?

Congratulations! I am going to session II as well! -I am still waiting on my letter though (I found out by calling admissions).
Respectfully,
Kathleen

I must've gotten extremely lucky- my BGO offered to call for me to see how my application was going, he was able to tell me I got in, and I got my letter within two-three weeks of having submitted my application.

look forward to seeing you there, I'm a girl also, assuming we will be in the minority. ;)
I'm from Atlanta, you?

California :)
Yeah, there hasn't been a lot of candidates who have received word yet- we should get our letters tomorrow (April 15) according to admissions. But, like I said I called them up and they told me over the phone.

that's so weird; my packet said that returned applications were due on April 15th at the very latest. so I was of course rushing to get it in by tomorrow. strange.

wow, if I were in California it would not be an absurd hour to be only just beginning on an AP biology lab. ugh. NASS (and summer in general) cannot come quickly enough.

again, congrats, and hopefully we'll find out about some more people in the next few days- good luck everyone. :)

Ugh! April 15th and still no reply from the Naval Academy. I was thinking that April 15 would be considered "mid-may" but I guess not.

Is the reason they are not being sent out early because of actual Academy appointments going out?
