NASS

DD just got an email saying she was accept to NASS session 1 and has until 23 Feb to submit forms and payment. She applied o/a 20 Jan.

She applied to the USMA SLE on 15 Jan and hasn't heard back. She purposely applied later for USNA NASS hoping she'd hear first from the USMA.

DS just received email he is in Session 2. That probably puts Boys State out of the running.
Hey, congratulations to your son, I hope to see him at NASS this summer. I got the email today and could not be more excited. I am also doing Boys State this summer and the dates do not conflict with the NASS session. What dates does your Boys State cover?

From the application page: "The application will be open until 11:59.59 pm EST on March 31, 2018" so any time up to and just after that date.

I heard that some will find out if they were accepted even close to mid-April for some applicants.

DS’s Boys State is the same week - session 2. He is a Boy Scout NYLT senior staff ASPL during week 3 & school finals are week 1. He’s not an official Boys State participant yet but likely. DS needs to make sure this is who he will be so NASS is pretty important to him. It’s his decision & he wants to be sure so he will do NASS.

Son heard back today for session 1. He applied 2 weeks ago. Navy is fast. He also applied for Air Force SS mid Jan. and still waiting?

I applied to NASS in the beginning of January, and still haven’t heard back. Should I be concerned? Ive heard of some applicants who applied later than I did and already heard back. If you get denied do you hear back later than everyone else?

I applied on the day that the application was opened. Should I be concerned that I have not received a response yet?

I applied January 15th and have not received a response yet. Responses come out until mid-March and sometimes into April. Try not to worry about it (though I am a hypocrite here), there's nothing we can do to change anything.

I have the exact situation. I applied for both SLE and NASS. I got my acceptance to NASS today and still have not heard anything regarding SLE. Congratulations to your daughter!

That is a smart decision. The dates for Boys State where I am from are June 17-23, therefore they do not interfere with NASS session 2 for me. I agree that NASS is a great opportunity for many of us who are interested to place ourselves in the Service Academy environment.

In a Q&A admissions said that NASS applications are NOT reviewed in the order that they are received and they are NOT reviewed in order of merit.

How they are reviewed, I have no idea. Hang in there.

Last year my son’s acceptance came Apr 4th for 2nd session. Can’t recall how early he submitted the application though. Was a great experience for him and cemented his desire to aim for the academy. He’s still in touch with his group leader and a couple of the other candidates. Whether you end up deciding to try for admission or not, it’s great to see the facilities, tour Annapolis, etc. We went a day early and paid for the tour which was excellent. Helped get familiar with how the Academy works and eased the jitters. Learned some history while there as well with the capital buildings that were the original US Capital before DC. Ate some great food. Truly an unforgettable experience all the way around. As has been said on other threads, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get NASS, as it’s a recruiting tool with limited spots. But if you’re serious about the academy I would suggest a regular visit and tour anyway just to see it. Very impressive.

If you look at the USMA SLE thread, it is likely WP runs behind USNA SASS notification.

I agree with the thread above "it’s a recruiting tool with limited spots". This also means that if you applied on day 1 and you are in a geographic region that is highly competitive, chances are you likely won't hear until April. USNA will fill in spots with targeted candidates from regions where recruitment is more challenging.

To those waiting, order of NASS acceptance is not based on merit or how early you have applied. It is prob first handed out to those students living and attending schools in underrepresented geographic locations. So please do not get discouraged.

Pounded this into DS's head last night - he's earned NOTHING yet. We live in the middle of the "stable craton" in an inner city where MOC rarely has 10 nominees and as such he was targeted mostly because where he happens to live and not what he happens to give.

My son applied the first week of January. Nothing yet. 790 math SAT, honors student, 3.9 gpa, top 10% of his class. Tri-varsity athlete. Crickets.

I have not heard anything as of yet either for NASS. Congratulations to those who have heard and good luck. I hope to hear back something soon.
