The commitment by these aircrews to pull this off is unbelievable. Truly incredible what they pulled off. Cal Fire, who braves almost everything, had admitted that they could not save these people. National Guard did.

Please keep these folks and the residents and visitors in your prayers. There was still a group at Lake Edison and China Peak ski resorts as of the morning papers.

This wildfire is 0% contained and Santa Ana winds will be coming in following the end of the heatwave. This section of the sierras is riddled with dead trees post-drought and bark beetle. I flew over weekly pre-pandemic and the brown of dead trees is overwhelming.

I grew up spending summers at Huntington Lake, primarily camping at Rancheria. Also skied many times at China Peak. My DM just sold her condo at Huntington a month ago. Good timing, but we will still be devastated if it burns and my heart goes out to those in the surrounding communities that have suffered losses in this fire and to those that still may.

My dad hauled our sailboat to Huntington Lake for their regatta. We swam in the freezing water from the beach while he raced. One night we had a bear in camp. He managed to unlock the old fashioned Coleman cooler, open the Tupperware and lick all of the sauce off of the spaghetti noodles.
He then preceded to finish up with our brownies. He had good taste.

It was a beautiful lake and area. I am sad for the loss of forest and property and hope no lives are lost.
