Hi all, Can someone explain how the NWL and National Pool work. Are they two different things? And when/if a candidate finds out if they are on either? How does the "ranking" work on each? Based on WCS? Thank you!

I actually meant to post this under Naval Academy, but is it the same procedurally across the SA's?

Here is a thread that addresses the National Pool that discusses how it is ranked with a WCS. USNABgo08 gives the best explanation of it. You won't necessarily know you are in the National Pool unless someone in admissions says something. An appointment is an appointment regardless of your nomination.

Wait list is different. It is like a college wait list. USNA could offer an appointment to someone on the wait list all the way up until I Day. We always hear of a story every year of someone getting the call a few days before I Day and jumping through hoops to make it. In years past the wait list was 100 people. In recent years very few (maybe a handful or so) have been coming off that list. The wait list is not ranked and USNA can call anyone off of it. Only USNA knows why they pick that person. You will get a letter if you are on the wait list that tells you this. It will also so to pursue a Plan B in the mean time.
