National Waiting List

Hoping this happens to you.

We now know our answer, or the answer for my son. He had been waitlisted last year and this year reapplied while going to college. He received a wait list letter a few weeks back. Last week on Monday my son received his TWE, to say the least this was a disappointment. His plan was to continue his studies, and reapply a third time.

On Wednesday he received a call from his MOC notifying him he was going to be going to WP afterall. This was confirmed by a call from Admissions at West Point.

Friday he officially accepted the offer online.

He is ecstatic, and rightly so with all the time and hard work he has put into persuing his dream.

It is a roller coaster but hang in there, it could happen. I wish all of you the best of luck. I would like to thank those who have written in here so that we might learn as we moved thru the process.

Tachyon,
Your story is heartwarming! Best wishes to your son! I hope my son is part of his cadre; he seems like a truly motivated cadet candidate!

Congratulations, to both of you!

Congratulations!!! To you and your son!!! I think it is so cool that USMA and USAFA (don't know about the others) are still granting appointments. Let's keep it up! Contrats again.

My son got the TWE about 3 weeks ago or so and received his appointment this past Saturday, so hold out hope!!

He was put on the NWL a few weeks ago. When it looked like he was not getting off the NWL, admissions set him free informing him he would not be winning an appointment.

What probably happened here is the candidate who was above him on the MOC nomination list withdrew or was found not qualified. When the space was unexpectedly opened up it was offered to the next available candidate who was fully qualified.
Right now this is about the best shot anyone has of receiving an appointment.
Congratulations to both of you!!

my daughter recently turned back her appt to West Point. I sincerely hope that someone on this forum receives it. Best wishes to everyone!

Where did she decide to attend college? Anything turn her off to USMA? My daughter is applying for class of 2015 and I would like to know as much as I can.

Thanks

$1,000 says it was either for USAFA or USNA.

Ha - I'd take you up on that bet and you'd lose, believe it or not! But I won't steal House's thunder!

Hey- can I still get in on this bet?
I could use $1,000 to pay for all the plane tickets that I have to buy my Plebe this summer!
I have a 'hunch' that House06's daughter is practicing her, 'Go Irish' cheers.

House06 - My warmest congratulations to your daughter! She has a fine opportunity ahead of her.

accept an AOG scholarship and still get it there year

Hello there, my son received an AOG scholarship this year and he has chosen to attend MMI and then Westpoint. We are thrilled! My question is can he still be chosen from the NWL to attend this year? If so then do other people get offered the scholarship? I was hoping that by accepting the scholarship his chances of attending this year wouldn't be decreased.

Thank you for any information you can give! You guys are a great group. :)

Congratulations!!!
Accepting the scholarship won't decrease his chances of an appointment! The odds are very tiny at this point but occassionally a candidate who receives an AOG scholarship is then offered an appointment.

If an AOG scholar receives an appointment or turns down the scholarship they will offer it to someone else. They maintain a working list and make every attempt to fill all the slots for AOG scholars and the prep school.

Can I get in on the bet also? Looks like we will need the extra dollars for R&B. No fair, someone cheated and looked on the CGA forum.

Yes daughter did turn down WP appt in spite of being a legacy and Presidential Nom, and other appointment opportunities to attend the University of Notre Dame. I know some might find that really hard to believe.

But in the end, I truly do feel that each candidate/cadet must do what they feel within themselves is the right path for them.

To answer Invictus. I am not sure that one "particular" thing turned her off from WP. Her dad is graduate and we are a career military family. Have neither "encouraged" nor "discouraged" military service as we have wanted both of our daugthers to make up their own minds regarding their futures.

Daughter has been interested in attending ND since 4th grade. She has spent several summers on campus for camps and we have had the wonderful opportunity to attend several ND games against Army and Navy, including the triple overtime thriller against Navy a couple of seasons ago.

Then she expressed interest in military academies and attended SLS. Came home from SLS in total awe and love with West Point. Was so committed to going to WP that she did not even want to apply anywhere else. Fast forward to December, when not only does she finds herself with an appt to WP but also a congratulations for Early Admission to Notre Dame. In spite of the fact that noone including her Admissions officer at Notre Dame( who by the way had been recruited by Army to play football but instead went to ND to play for Lou Holtz ) thought she would get in Early Admissions.

Not only did she get in but also secured an ROTC scholarship to take to ND in the process. It has been a crazy process which I have repeatedly expressed that there was some fate, destiny or divine intervention involved.

She still loves WP and would be counting down the days to R day if "life" hadnt intervened for her. There is some reason and purpose in her going to Notre Dame. She respects and admires those including her SLS friends who will be reporting.

To top the crazy story off, she just received NCAA clearance and is seriously mulling the possibility of attempting to "walk on" in a DI sport that she has never played in her life. It is going to be an adventurous and wild ride with this daughter.

I guess the moral of the story Invictus is that everyone needs to follow their dreams, stay the course and choose their own paths, no matter how "crazy" it might seem to others at the time.

In the next year many here on the Service Academy Forum will be pursuing their own "Rudy" dream in some fashion. I am very humbled in knowing that there are still so many young men and women enthusiastically willing to serve our great nation. It helps restore my faith in humanity!

Guess I don't follow every post here, congratulations!

House06 --- My whole family is in awe!! Congrats to you and your daughter!! She definately has a bright, promising future ahead of her!!

So with May 1 just two days away (and thus most appointments that will be accepted probably already accepted)....what is the class size? How many people accepted appoinments?
