Is it standard to automatically get a letter that says you are fully qualified and on the NWL? My son's CFA turned green today and with it came a letter that he is fully qualified and on the NWL. I saw someone post here that everyone goes on the NWL but then online I see conflicting info. He has 3 nominations if that has anything to do with the process.

My son got a letter last year saying the same thing; he's a plebe now. No guarantees, but it's a good place to be. Good luck.

When did he get offered an appointment?
My son was on the list for USMMA and was called I believe either Late May or early June, the day after everyone had to make a decision. By then he had already accepted USCGA (which was his 1st choice). Again still in the running so keep working on plans B, C, D .... and Good Luck!!!

We received the letter saying he would hear between 3/1 and 5/1 and he was accepted for admission on 2/2. I think the 3q letter is a boilerplate for all 3q whether primary nominee, LOA, etc. Just as a placeholder until the decision is made.

Thank you - that is what this letter said.
AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I got the 3Q letter about 10 days ago and I'm curious why they would say "most appointments being made between March 1 and May 1" if at this point, roughly 70% of the offers were already made and only 30% more to go?

First, congrats on being 3Q. Second, I would hesitate to rely too heavily on that '70% of the offers were already made' statement. We really have no way to assume that. It is VERY early in this admission cycle. Considering the 3Q letter specifically states most offers will be made between March 1 and May 1, the '70%' you quote would directly contradict that. This is long game stuff.

Our DS got a 3Q letter mid-September last year, and his appointment offer in February. Many more received their offers after that, to include into May, and even a handful possibly after that.
Be happy being 3Q, handle your other backup plans, keep your grades up and hug mom and dad and sibs. A lot. And, be patient. I have always thought I was a patient individual. The academy app process, nom app process, and mom of a plebe in Covid land tested mine for sure. Hang in there!

Where in the world did you get your numbers from?
I just speculated. Since there are already around 85 on this forum that are confirmed to have been appointed, following the 10% rule, there are already around 800 to 850 appointments offered which is roughly around 70% of the total 1300 slots.

Yes. If 70% of the offers were already made, there would only be 30% more to go.

No idea if 70 is accurate or not.

Certainly some big assumptions and extrapolation there. Frankly I think the numbers are more likely backwards. I also suspect the better candidates are more likely to search out this forum so I would expect them to be doing well with appointments at this point in the game. Note the similar assumptions and extrapolations. We can all play at that but it's just play.

As I have understood it over the years, the 10% rough estimate is at the END of the cycle, when typically we might see some percentage around 10% of a typical incoming class range have posted they received an offer. The 10% is just an observation made over the years about the typical number of applicants who find SAF and post their offer. That is all that it is.

There is no way to know from the current list size if that has any predictable relationship to the offers that are out there.

We know more offers are made than are expected to be accepted, but we don’t know what that “over-shoot” percentage is.

We know the appointment offers come in clumps or waves, which may or may not show as numerically proportionate flow rate of offers appearing here.

We don’t know what the “sweet spot” range is for the incoming class.

We don’t know if the type of applicant/parent to be proactive and find this forum and post their appointment offer are typical of the class - or just the usual 10%.

We know that posters here report undecided and declined, and that is a different stat than “showed up to list my appointment.”

The 10% is not a moving indicator in any way at this time in the cycle that can be used to SWAG an estimate of how many appointments are already out there.

Back to my calculations on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

I started this thread about the NWL and now I have an answer ... my son was offered an appointment at the USMA for the class of 2025 today - Less than 1 week after he was placed on the NWL so I'm concluding the letter he received was just a standard letter.

Congratulations to your DS! That's tremendous to hear.

Did the "standard" letter say that most appointments would be offered between March 1 and May 1st? If so, what was the exact language on that? In years past a huge wave (what I would call "most") went out the last week of January and the first week of February. There are even pictures of boxes and boxes of BFEs on the Internet (from previous years) showing them ready for the Post Office- at least 500 to 600 appointments. I'm wondering if this has already happened this year or if things really are different (which I'm doubting) due to Covid. Just trying to get a feel for where the admissions committee is on the offers.

P.S. Our candidate has been 3Q for months (with several noms) and we haven't received any additional communication from WP since then. It's hard to wait. Lol.
