Current junior in HS, accepted to attend boys state but wait listed from USAFA SS/ Rejection from SLE (candidate status granted). Received a packet in the mail stating I had been nominated for an NYLF for national security at the University of Maryland over the summer. Anyone know if this is worth it/beneficial to add to an application? Fairly pricey at about $3k in total.

Got the same thing while I was going through the application process. Didn't go but from searching online I heard that it's sent out to a ton of high schoolers so it doesn't really amount to much on any college or academy application.

Yeah I got one of those, it won’t help your application/resume but you may or may not learn something about the topics if you’re willing to pay $3000 + travel expense. Also don’t pay attention to the “nominated” part, you probably got on their list by hitting a certain score on the PSAT and they sent that to everyone. Also I’m pretty sure it’s one of those things where you can actually nominate yourself if you want to go. I would say it’s definitely not worth it. Your time would be better spent with your current activities and Boys state and getting a summer job.
