Naval Academy Summer Seminar 2009

I went to NASS session one this year. It was really fun. The PT was very reasonable. CFA one day, PRT the next, work out with a Navy SEAL another, 3 mile run with everyone, and of course Sea Trials day. PRT was easier than the CFA by far because yoiu don't get tired out from all the different events. They do get you up at like 5:15 every morning, but that wasn't to bad at all. Sea Trials was long, but really fun. You get to stay with your squad all day and do different things with them. There is obstacle course, meadow workout, relays, log PT, some running, wet and sandy, zodiacs, more relays, team building, tug of war, swimming....etc. You do have to eat an MRE for dinner, so choose wisely. Our squad got pizza later that night though, so it wasn't a big deal. Just drink lots of water and you will be fine for the day.

If anyone has any other questions about SS just PM me or reply on this thread. I'll be happy to answer anyone's questions.

PS-Go BRAVO!

Bravo! What Plat/Squad were you in?
I was B-2-3

I really enjoyed myself. Only thing is, I hope you guys didn't sign up for Character Development! It's not that boring but you get SO tired -_-
Overall the experience was GREAT I wasn't sure about applying before but now it's a definite go. I really liked the Marine Silent Drill team aswell :p

WE ALL WE GOT!

There was no A/C in Bancroft when I did NASS so it was miserable

Until 5 yrs ago, there was no A/C in Bancroft period (other than Memorial Hall and offices in the building). Imagine an entire summer -- July and August -- with not even a fan. Built character.:yllol:

Haha GO ECHO! whatever Bravo - That was the funnest thing about walking through BWI at the end of NASS. Seeing all these SS students and walking up asking "What company were you in?... Oh! Charlie?... I'm an echo...." Tehe.

The Seal Training was fun - of course, we had two spirit missions the night before so we didn't get to sleep till 2. It was totally worth it though. Waking up at 5? Hard as ever. And then PT with the Navy Seal - dear lord!

It was all fun though :)

My son took the CFA the first full day. They did however have PT in the morning before that which seemed strange to me!

However, he is currently at WP SLS. He did the CFA there and said it was "by the book" - exactly down to the second on timing for events. At Navy he said they got a lot of rest between events because they didn't worry about the timing and just went through a squad at a time. So it really should be your chance to do the best you'll be able to. He did far better on his CFA there than this week (although much of that could have been that he was tired after a week there, then heading off to WP too!).

Here's some pictures of Sea Trials day.

'Twas a fun day.

So lets say someone did a stupid thing - like possibly leaving their iPod in their room when they left. Does anyone know a number I could call to see if they found that certian iPod?

Bravo 2-4! Wow we were like right next to each other....
The silent drill was pretty hard core, I really enjoyed watching it. And yes, the CFA was Sunday. Our platoon took it a hour or so after lunch. That was really lucky because some had it right after lunch, which would have sucked.
I love those pictures! They were from my platoon. The guy in camo in the first pic was actually my squad leader. I was behind him somewhere, but you can't see me...

Session 2

well i just returned from Summer Seminar 2009 Session 2 (ALPHA(most motivated company) 1-4) wooo that week was great; watch what you eat though cuz they bring all the gud food out when you are bout to do major exercise so temptation is definitely a challenge by itself

tips:
alot of water is needed drink constantly in small sips
try your best not to injure yourself or over do yourself cuz ppl do get injured rather easily
try to become friends with your squad members cuz before you know it you guys are family
dont sit at the top of the bleachers b/c it gets hot as balls and trust me you will be miserable

The best thing was probably Seatrials just hope it doesnt rain b/c our group wasnt able to finish all of it we had to skip the last event. all 2gether it was fun ; definitely try your hardest on everything you will be sore but it will be worth it and dont quit no matter how exhausted you are

good luck session 3

Hey all, im attending NASS session 3 but im really worried about my physical performance while at the seminar, im worried that im going to be the slowest runner on the mile and stuff like that. Will the academy note poor performers during the seminar?

I went to the first seminar last week. They know that not all of you are in shape - they explained that to us. They want to see that you WANT to be there and that you are ALWAYS motivated. That's a lot better to them than being in complete shape and not wanting to be there and not motivated for summer seminar. Don't worry about the mile or anyting like that, because people will be cheering you on :) It's a lot of fun - as long as you are mentally prepared, you should do just fine. I was NOT in my best physical shape (I haven't ran since the leaves changed colors) and I did just fine :)

Have fun! You'll have a blast. GO ECHO!

i agree; there were plenty of people who werent in the best of shape; nd then there were some in like awesome shape... i did pretty average on the mile (7 minutes 7 seconds), mile nd a half (10minutes 30 seconds), and the three mile which was every1 running 2gether which is at a 10 minute 30 second mile pace

either way if u have the right mind set of not giving up you will be fine
also another tip; u do not need a lot of clothes b/c u will never rarely wear your own shirts but i do advise some quarters if your midshipmen are nice to wash your clothes (pt clothes) because they will stink by the end of the week

session 2

i attended session 2 and at the end they had a slide show with a bunch of pictures on it. I was really interested in one of the songs they had on that slide show and cant find it anywhere, anyone know the artist and title?

Some of the lyrics are: We write blue, we write green, we write dreams we write change... we write summer's breeze we write winters wrath.... it was 4:56 and i opened my pad and i didnt want to write the things i already had, 538 put the pen on the couch and now i gotta figure out what i was talkin about.

i think its from that movie freedom writers, lookup the soundtrack

Following up on the NASS 09 thread, when I was there to pick up my son at the closing ceremony several kids received awards of some sort. Can anyone shed some light on what I was seeing, I didn't quite understand what was going on. It seemed there were very few awards (only about five or six I think) compared to the couple hundred kids that must have attended, they must have achieved something special but I don't know what.

If i remember correctly there was one for most spirited and a couple for amazing CFA Scores. And i believe it went by company.
