Naval Academy Summer Seminar 2009

because youre not designated as an official candidate for the class of 2014 yet, your BGO cannot help you. sorry!

just be patient, the academy took nearly a month to get back to me last year.

?E-mails?

Did anyone receive any e-mails about NASS yet? Well if anyone from the addmissions office reads the forums. Today would be a nice day to hear some good news, its my little girls birthday::smile:

well, its been over a month: i applied the day it opened Feb. 1st and still haven't heard anything. I'm getting really, really worried now.

I've been accepted to USAFA and USMA Summer Seminars, but USNA is my first choice!!!

Same here...also accepted to USMASLS and USAFASS. Getting worried.

Got my acceptance in mail today for 1st session....will be playing soccer for Navy in 2010.. BEAT ARMY!

did you get an email acceptance before the one int he mail?

can we call the admissions office to find out the status of our file? or at least make sure everything is ok with it?

i know people say to be patient, but timing wise its crucial that I know soon. plus, its killing me....i can't go on checking my email every hour!!!

also, even though i haven't been "denied" for NASS yet, it seems like my chances of getting in are highly unlikely at this point. USNA has been my first choice, but the feeling that they don't want me makes me more inclined to USMA and USAFA who did select me for their summer seminars, and have less slots available.

This week

I think we'll hear good news this week. The power of positive thinking.

first wave of acceptance

For those that received acceptance emails several weeks ago (on or about 3/6/09), was there a date deadline by which you were expected to accept/decline the invitation?

Just curious, as I assume that next wave selections will not follow until all first wave invitiations have been accepted/declined.

Yes! I got my acceptance letter today! Haha, I'm so relieved!

Just for general information, I'm in Session 1, and am from Plant City (Near Tampa, FL). I also did not recieve an acceptance e-mail, so I wouldn't sweat it if you didn't get one.

Good luck to everyone else!

I just got my acceptance to session 3 in the mail! No email for me either. I'm not sure if I can go because Minnesota Girl's State is that week. I have my interview tomorrow, so whether I go to NASS depends on the outcome of my interview.

my best advice is to stop waiting by the mailbox! ;)

I'm seeing all of these posts about people who applied the day it came out and already got an email. I applied that afternoon but I haven't heard anything yet so does that mean I didn't get in??

The best advice I can give you is to relax! :)

Those who are chosen for NASS are hand-picked by the Regional Director. This man or woman is in charge of a lot as it is, since he or she not only chooses the NASS participants, but also is in charge of candidates for the incoming class. I spoke with my Regional Director a few weeks ago - he's in charge of Region 4, which covers, pretty much, the entire West coast and several states in the Northern Midwest as well. Regional Directors are always working, always traveling, and always in touch with candidates, so just hang tight!

Those who received e-mails the same day they applied were probably on the top of a very large pile that is increasing every day.

If it is any consolation, I had applied a year ago the very day NASS applications were available, at 12:00am EST, to do my best to get selected, and I still did not receive my letter for NASS until April 15.

Don't worry! You'll hear back soon enough. Meanwhile, work on getting in shape so you can enjoy NASS as much as possible. It really is a lot of fun, and the better shape you're in physically, the more fun you'll have! :shake:

How much PT is there every day at NASS? The schedule says just in the morning, but I always figured it would be more. Also, is there anymore detail about what else we are going to be doing during the day?

Update on NASS for Spring of 2009

Here is some info provided to BGOs yesterday. One thing to remember is the application for NASS 2009 is still open and will be until the end of the month (March 31st).

From the BGO Bulletin:
With two weeks left in the application window for NASS 2009 we have already received over 5500 applications. This is an increase of 1400 as compared to last year.
As you can imagine this will increase the competition for the 2250 spots available and it will be very important that all candidates who are not selected are properly counseled. Nonselection to NASS will in no way negatively impact a candidate’s chances at gaining an appointment to USNA. Please remember that the selection process for NASS is very different
than our admissions process. We place an emphasis on selecting candidates who geographically don’t have the opportunity to visit USNA and we
will focus on under-represented areas throughout the country.
We have already started making selections and will continue to do so until all spots are filled.
