Naval ROTC Status

Finally; posted today:

Selection Status
We are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship.

9 months.....

That is a long time to wait only to finally get disappointing news. Just don't give up. My DS did ROTC for two years, the whole time not knowing if he would get a scholarship or even be able to continue. He finally got his sideload MO scholarship. As has been mentioned many times in these forums, be persistent and have back-up plans.

We are all good. Definately a long wait...

We had plans A through F: USMMA, USNA, USCGA, NROTC at ME Maritime or SUNY Maritime, Strategic Sealift Officer (SSO) program and NESA STEM Scholarship.

DS had 2 objectives: serve as officer and obtain a BS in Marine Engineering.

NROTC was a back up if he did not receive an Academy appointment (he was accepted to USMMA). He applied to ME Maritime and SUNY Maritime both which have NROTC units. Both schools accepted him. Both schools also offer the SSO program.

As tough as this process was, I would not change anything about it. My son as I have always been close and the ups and downs over the last year or so have strengthened that bond.

I know the NROTC scholarship my son did not earn is being used by a well deserving future naval officer who one day may be serving side by side with my son. It is all good.

I was notified yesterday that I received a scholarship to Penn State, but I will be attending GW on an Army ROTC instead. I hope that someone on the waitlist will receive mine.
