Has anybody had the experience of having a navy federal account automatically opened by the academy?

In my permit to report package I received a NFCU package but did NOT fill it out because I already had a NFCU account — I just planned to bring a direct deposit slip to I day. In other words, I didn’t give any information to the academy about my banking situation.

Today I went to navy federal to take care of some unrelated stuff, and found out that an active duty checking account was opened for me, but it wasn’t by my parents or myself. The situation is very strange, and NFCU is going to contact me tomorrow to find out what is exactly going on.

Anyways, if anybody could share their experiences regarding NFCU and the academy that would be great. Thanks

So when I was reading up I saw that USNA contracts (I don’t know if right word to use) Navy Federal for payments therefore a dummy account is opened with NFCU and if you elect another account for payments then NFCU will automatically direct deposit into that account.

My DD already had a NFCU checking account before her I-Day. I can't remember if she told them in the PTR paper work what her account number was or not. Looking at her account in the fall after Plebe Summer, she found it had automatically been changed to an Active Duty checking account.
