Navy fires TR skipper

big mistake IMHO. Many overlook the fact that Crozier violated OPSEC and his chain of command; reinstating him would make the Navy look stupid and be a public admission that they might have used poor judgement.

@conrack I mean the three people the letter was addressed to were all Admirals directly in his chain of command, and the only other people copied were Captains, all of which were either on board the Roosevelt or the administrative assistants of the aforementioned Admirals. Given that we have no idea who leaked it, it seems that Captain Crozier neither violated OpSec or his chain of command.

Surely public admission of poor judgment is better than allowing a potentially bad decision to stand as is?

Unfortunately none of us on these boards knows the "pertinent" information regarding the investigation. Everything is conjecture! The thing that sort of baffles me is a "Commanding Officer", ANY Commanding Officer/Officer-in-Charge has the total and absolute authority to make changes as to current mission or evolution based upon the safety, operational readiness, or ability to complete the mission without hazarding the command. While none of us know the true status of the TR, its ability to continue to perform its' mission, or why the emails were sent, it is up to Big Navy and likely the "politicians" to make the right determination and do the right thing, and if that is "reinstatement" then so be it. IMHO, if Crozier is reinstated, the Navy could be opening a can of worms with any other similar situation. The Kidd is an example. The Navy took the public stance that Covid-19 cases onboard ships were not going to be disclosed, but lo and behold now we hear the Kidd had 18, then 30 something, a medical team was enroute, and the Kidd was headed to port. How it that different from the TR, and I hear no calls for the Kidd's CO to be relieved or reprimanded? Big Navy needs to set policy regarding these types of actions, who is notified, how, what is made public, and then commands can be held responsible. Until then, it seems like this is a "hit and miss" and hope you as a CO don't get caught in the mess.

Certain "navy officials" have recommended it. It's not a done deal. Every news organization likes to jump the gun and report things as real these days, before they are. He wasn't reduced in rank, so commanding another carrier was always a possibility for him. If it does happen, it will not be the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

multiple sources have reported that "navy officials" who recommend re-instatement includes CNO and acting SecNav. the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs apparantly has slowed this down, and has requested a deeper investigation.
the decision will be made by SecDef who is reviewing info.

if, (big if) secdef decides to re-instate him, i won't be at all surprised if he returns to TR. i would be surprised if he goes back into the pool and is then assigned another boat later.

i still think the odds are that secdef (after getting direction from POTUS) decides against re-instatement

Okay. I'll take that bet. ;)

No way he commands TR again.

Yes - disregard the CDC, that bunch of over educated worry warts! We should rely on English or Philosophy majors to make judgments about what to do in a pandemic.🙄
It’s always better to be unencumbered by science - it’s all just TMI.
I guess I did not expand it enough to make it clear. Science is science. I was referring to politics.

In my social media circles, one group in China started suspecting the outbreak back in December and warned members to start preparing in all aspects like food, medicine, backup communication methods. Thanks to this DIY early warning system, even those members who live in the epicenter of Wuhan survived unscathed.

When WHO made the first announcement, it was pretty much a laughing stock by most Chinese as to how it gave in to CCP pressure. But our well-educated CDC folks obviously must extend the respect and trust to that same bunch of well-educated epidemiologists over at WHO. While at the same time, the Chinese American community here tried their best to sound the alarm bells to no vail, at local school districts, at city halls, writing to CDC, plus getting shouted at for wearing masks...

My conclusion, only those who first hand experienced Leninism regime can smell its lies from far away. I hope CDC counts itself as one after this pandemic.

You called it! :thumb:

this isn't a surprise

CNO and SecNav recommended reinstatement, but a few days ago Chairman of the Joint Chiefs wanted more info. So Gen Milley advised SecNav to do a deeper dive.

That article reads "...Crozier was fried on April 2..."
Typo, but still somewhat accurate. ;)
