Navy flight training accident

I got a call from my DS last night at 9pm, and the first thing he said was "Just want to let you know I'm OK" (He's at Whiting). When you hear that, you know something is wrong. Then a text around turned up a missing friend :( He's pretty upset. Praying for those families.
I offer solace to your son and peace of mind to @LurkingQuietly . I am afraid that it will not be the last time that he encounters a situation as this in Naval Aviation. As much as people admire aviation and aviators, there is inherent risk and danger involved in the training command and fleet. Brave men and will again, put on their flight suits, brief their flights, and continue flying despite this tragic mishap. God bless them all.

It’s not unusual on deployments for cell phones, wifi and internet to be locked down in these situations for just this reason. Families were finding out prior to official notification.

Obviously terrible news with parents and other family members getting the Chaplain visit.

The Navy/Marine Corps team just celebrated a rare year without an aviation fatality which was announced a couple days ago.

The ever present danger of serving in the military. Prayers to all touched by this tragedy.

There was a statement from the USCGA.
I’m rather surprised that they would do so as issuing a statement may give a good indication of who it is. As of this morning the Navy hadn’t even released that information.

While this is small comfort to anyone actively grieving a loss, my DH told me long ago that he knew the risks every time he stepped into the cockpit. He went on to say if anything were to ever happen to him in a military aviation-related accident or incident, he was doing what he loved to do, and he was at peace with death coming to him in that manner. And then we put it out of our minds, and before either one of us deployed or left on a trip or went off to fly, we always made sure there was a loving good-bye. We agreed if either one of us had to deal with a sudden loss in that manner, we trusted the other to be strong enough to get through it. We could not take up precious time in the present to worry about the risks of military life.

Statement from Superintendent RADM Bill Kelly to CGA Parents Association where officer and class year were named.

Very sad. I just received a call from my son who is currently at NAPS with CGAS and they have obviously been told as he know the identity of the Coast Guard Ensign. My prayers are with the families.

This sucks on a different level than when I was on active duty and volunteered for every op leaving town.

Having a kid who does dangerous stuff at the spear's tip has me always at the edge of my sanity and I grieve for the families of the lost on this day.

I don’t think he was supposed to do that.
It was posted this morning on the "CGA Parents Association" page this morning. CGA is very small.....everyone in that graduating class
know each other. I know a lot of the parents from that class. Additionally, Its parents weekend at the Academy.

Does not matter. That’s not how it works. Should NOT have been posted on any social media until an official release. That’s not how it works and is why the military has started locking down social media, wifi and internet when casualties happen during deployments. The only way I knew there was a casualty while DW and DD were deployed was when contact was cut off.
Too many cases of next of kin finding out via social media. And that’s not how to do it.
I don’t know all the facts but I hope this is not how the Coast Guard did it.
