Navy goes dry in Japan

Sailors and Marines keep doing some pretty dumb things, and those actions risk our continued presence.

The language in the article was vague but I wouldn't expect this to last too long. It is a symbolic move. Probably appropriate but primarily symbolic. A move like this will have devastating affects on the local Okinawa towns and their economy. I give it 30 days max.

After 9/11 the USMC/USN did this for about a week. It went on for nearly 6 months for the USAFA to include a curfew and no out after 10 PM. We rather enjoyed having the town to ourselves without zoomies getting in our way ;). Liberty is already pretty restricted for the USMC in Japan to include mandatory liberty buddies for junior Marines, lack of driver's licenses for junior Marines and breathalyzers leaving and returning from base.

Wonder if it's related to the Marine that killed an Okinawan and disposed of her body, which was followed by the release of a Okinawa training power point which was offensive....

Not sure how quickly this will change.

I would imagine this, added with the drunk driving incident, was enough to make some type of a quick policy change. With the growing protests it's hard to guess just how long this will last.
