With today's win over Tulsa, NAVY ( 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play) has been offered the Lockheed-Martin ARMED FORCES BOWL scheduled for 12/23/16 in Ft.Worth , TX......
Will NAVY accept immediately or holdout for other invitations and opportunities ?

GO NAVY !

I believe USNA had a contract prior to this season. If I remember correctly, this is our last contracted bowl game prior to entering a conference. Contractually we are bound to this game unless we get a New Year's Day bowl, if I remember everything correctly. For that to happen USNA has to win out and a few other things would need to align. Essentially we need to be highest ranked non-power 5 team, so a win out is needed for that.

I'm certain NavyHoops is correct; the online sources have had Navy at the AFB since they became "bowl eligible."

Another Cotton Bowl appearance would be real nice, but I am not sure how that Bowl selection works now.

More than Navy winning out has to happen. Western Michigan, Boise State, San Diego State and Wyoming all are non-Power 5 five schools ranked ahead of Navy. Although in many ways our schedule has been tougher, but that is depending on how you look at it. Still a lot of football ahead Navy and those teams. Navy always plays week to week, 0-0. Beat ECU.

most of the BCS bowls have conference tieins, the Cotton is one that does have some flexibility and could invite any top ranked team it wants. If Navy wins out they are 11-2 which seems good enough to qualify though WMU and Boise State might object; frankly San Diego State and Wyoming probably don't have the reputation and name recognition to get in. Would be great to see an FSA in a major bowl; appears all 3 of the D1s are headed to a bowl this year, anybody know the last time that happened?

SDSU lost this weekend. Wyoming has 3 losses. It really comes down to W Michigan and Boise St losing between now and bowl bids. We will be rooting for USAFA to win! Even if Navy wins out, based purely on speculation and the way voting is going, they need those teams to lose their conf titles to really make an impact that we deserve the NY non-power 5 bid. As of right now Navy isn't getting much respect in the polls which won't help. USNA always has a motto of playing one week at a time, 0-0. They need to do that and stay healthy!

This was put out by USNA Alumni Association today:

Navy has a contractual agreement to play in the 2016 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl based on its status as an Independent before joining the American Athletic Conference. Navy is still in play for the Group of Five bid to a New Year’s Six Bowl, as selected by the College Football Selection Committee. The Group of Five Champion will play in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Monday, 2 January at 1PM (ET), Noon (CT), against a team from the Power 5.

@murfthesurf: book your hotel room now!

Go Navy!!!!

I am rooting for Cotton Bowl. Stranger things have happened in this world. It would be nice if they got in. Yeah, I was wondering why they all of a sudden dropped off all the Polls with no respect for a great season so far?

WOW !!..... GO NAVY !!!!!....... NAVY 75 - SMU 31 today !!!!!...... that's a solid statement for Cotton Bowl consideration ....but 1st, GO NAVY BEAT ARMY !!!!!

We need Ohio to beat Western Michigan next weekend to even be considered. They win, we don't have a shot. But first Navy needs to beat Temple/USF. I am rooting for Temple so we get a home game.

Ditto. Non-stop football here, punctuated by turkey sandwiches.

Hoops, let's all cheer for Ohio after Navy beat Temple this weekend.

Here is the link to purchase tickets for the AAC Championship this weekend. Seats above (section 108) and across (section 25) the midshipmen are still available at this time.

I will definitely be cheering for Ohio and Navy!

Navy's opponents are 53-48 for the 45th toughest schedule.

Western Michigan is 46-62 for 113th toughest schedule.

So definitely pulling for Ohio to even open the door for Navy. First they have to take care of Temple! And of course Beat Army!
