And I hope it’s a good sign for grade time at the USNA after final exams for some of the mids I know.
 
Thanks for posting, was interesting. And made me realize that a new FY started today. Be interesting to watch 2023 as our economy is all over the map and what that does for recruitment. Those are some hefty bonus numbers mentioned in the article.
 
I'm not surprised. The Army offers larger bonuses for basic enlisted MOS's than they do for medical professions (my own profession included). We have no incentive aside from the desire to serve.
 
If they drained DEP to get these numbers id not bet that the next enlisted grading period will set any positive records.

Next year they might actually have to ship kids out to boot camp within days of signing their enlistment contract because DEP is so depleted :)

They exact way it was done in the past for many decades.

we don’t need to debate this since it’s a non starter for most here but.

My recruiting sign outside of the recruiting office I’d have set up in west Baltimore or inner city Detroit or in any poor rural area etc

And for those many of whom would not have even a GED I’d invest a little in them, some time to get physically ready, time to earn that ged and time to find out if they were trainable. Maybe 3-4 weeks in a ccc like camp.

Then boot camp.

In our immigrant communities with illegals and along the border my sign would say something about signing up for and serving in The American Foreign Legion.

The way things are going in the world it’s not out of the question larger numbers of AD are going to be needed in the future.
 
Crossing a bunch of streams here, but since I am bored.....

My first thought on recruiting would be to comb through the hundreds and hundreds of Afghan refugees that worked alongside our soldiers and Marines as interpreters knowing they could be killed for doing it and offer them a spot. They might need some remedial physical training but their dedication to the cause is enough for me.
 
The idea of taking "borderline" applicants and giving them a sort of "remedial" training to get them up to speed and then sending them to either Boot Camp or OCS sounds a little interesting. These are applicants who want to serve, are generally motivated (I think), and could make the service a lifestyle. I am for giving citizens and immigrant applicants (who have the desire to serve, maybe more than an initial period) a helping hand in terms of physical and academic readiness, a signing bonus or educational stipend, then the training. These individuals for the most part I beleive have that desire to serve their country and I am for giving them an opportunity before people either brought here or here illegally, JMHO:)

The only problem I can see with Afghans or the people crossing our border illegally is would they have "Patriotism to this Country" first and foremost, or would they become a security risk as they likely would not be citizens upon enlistment or entering an officer ascension program?
