NAVY NSI 3 Begins!

Looking forward to another successful iteration at NSI 3. Your kids have been preparing for this all Spring and Summer. For some, all their youth. They got this! In fact, most will appreciate the training, build fraternity along the way, learn fidelity and obedience, develop Navy pride and self confidence. Best of luck to the Candidates. They will all graduate as Midshipmen 4/C!

My daughter 2/C is there at NSI-3 as Detailer/Instructor. She just finished her week of training and preparation. She’s going to take everyone in her Platoon under her wings to make sure they all succeed!

Just dropped off my DS at the airport to head to NSI 3. He is happy, sad, nervous, excited, scared, and all the in between. I let him know that he was not alone in feeling that way today. We are looking forward to 8/7 when we get to see him again and hear the stories.

DS is en route right now! He was nervous, but had a big smile on his face when we said goodbye at the airport.
 
In some ways, going to NSI III is the best of the options. There is less of a time lag between completion and the start of NROTC. So there is less chance they forget what they learned.

And for the Marine Options, there is a chance that the Gunny's are tired from the first 2 iterations. This is a slim chance, but they can hope 😏
 
Midshipmen will be training all year round so what they learn at NSI will be invaluable. In fact, they will have a leg up from those who had training and those who didn’t. From 2023, all incoming Freshmen (4/C) are required to attend. From 2020-2022, it appears it was optional.

NSI 3 weeks program is similar to the Naval Academy 7 weeks Plebe Summer. It is a condensed version of Plebe Summer. What maybe missing is learning to sail, elected intramural sports candidates wish to continue during the academic year, learning to box and do combatives, skip rifle qualification, and do less full dress parade practice.

Gunny's never tire..ha, ha! They were in full force for NSI 2 and one in particular happened to be our kid's favorite instructor. Stories were amazing.
 
Oh yeah! DS had me HOWLING with laughter after attending week 1. On the 1st Sunday afternoon (after a relatively relaxing AM routine), they brought all 480 candidates into a parade hall and the base CO gave them all a brief pep talk...ending with "Marine Instructors, carry out the plan of the day"...and that's when it hit the fan :director:

His favorite Gunny quote: "We can either be smart or be strong. Since you are neither...DOWN ON YOUR FACE!!!!"

My DD is there, god willing with an awesome leader. She was able to talk to some people and knew what was in store for her and meant a fellow candidate in the airport (the nerd clothes give it away). I wish there was a schedule out there to have an idea of what they’re doing!

There is a schedule.....but that is closely guarded. Part of the training is dealing with the unexpected. In battle, the enemy rarely shares its plans 😏 And I realize this is not very helpful. But many of you will find that your sons and daughters start to manage stress differently after NSI.

DD graduated Cycle 2; arrived home tired, sick-- and excited about NROTC. (Unit: Capital Battalion). She's already thinking about next summer Cortramid.

DVIDS website posts occasional photos; search for NSI Cycle 3. Pictures from prior cycles show Candidate training activities: Swim Qual, Man Overboard, Firefighting, PT, etc.
DVIDS site live-streams each cycle's Graduation.

Excellent choice of school and of course I'm not biased. 🙄

Along with the events you listed there is the all time favorite ...... Confidence Chamber. Excellent for clearing the nasal passages 😀
 
I was the last class before NSI became a thing. We instead had like a 4-day New Student Orientation, and then a lot of us 4/c mids in my unit went on a fun weeklong backpacking trip with a lot of other freshmen at our school before the official college orientation started.

I remember I was super excited, but also a bit nervous, to start the next chapter in my life! It was all worth it!

"Confidence Chamber"...

DS said that prior to entering, his company was seated in a room when a door opened and a Navy Chief stuck his head in and asked: "who here is nervous about the Confidence Chamber?" Several candidates raised their hands (understandably so)...to which the Chief responded: "WRONG ANSWER!"...and left the room. This was repeated multiple times until no one raised their hands...to which he said: "OK, NOW you're ready."😜

After they came out, the Chief told them they smelled bad and to go wash off all that confidence 🤣

Priceless.

Did Sea Trials for NROTC go away? Seemed to be a bumpy road for it and I have not heard anything on here about it this year.
