Hello,

I am currently applying for the Navy option ROTC. I was wondering if someone could help me and tell me what my chances are of being accepted. I have a 3.44 unweighted GPA, 4.2 weighted, a 1340 on my SAT, and a 96 on the ASVAB. I am in the Sea Cadets program and have been for over a year. I have been involved with sports since Freshman year, and was on Varsity football and soccer Junior year. I have volunteered a total of almost 300 hours, and am planning on getting at least another 100 before the end of my Senior year. I have taken mostly AP, Honors, and Dual Enrollment classes, as well as two college classes at the community college near me. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

While you would have a strong application there appears to be some things that could be stronger. I see no mention of leadership roles which are very important. Perhaps you simply neglected to mention them. My son had a 1310 SAT for Marine Option and did not receive a 4 year scholarship, which is not to say that you can't.... they look at the whole person and there are many things we cannot see.... essays, interviews, etc. All you can do is put your best foot forward and apply. BTW - the ASVAB score will be irrelevant although that is a good score.

Try retaking the SAT or even try the ACT to see if you can improve that aspect.... and that will be useful in college applications as well. If you can land a team captain role in football or soccer your senior year that would be helpful as well. Ace the PRT.

Keep in mind that one does not need to have a scholarship to enroll in NROTC, and participants in the program have further opportunities for scholarships. My DS was awarded a scholarship in the middle of his sophomore year. I takes hard work, excellent PFT scores, great leadership, etc. etc., but many folks do it (although certainly not all).

Thank you Kinnem. I have been leading my Sea Cadet unit for the past few months and that is on the application. I will also be re-taking my SAT in November of this year and I spoke to one of the members of the recruiting board and they said that they would be able to input it after I submit the application if I improve my scores.
