Son received email 3/30 he was awarded NROTC 4 yr. How long will it take for "selection letter" to be mailed? We are trying to find deadline for notification and confirmation it is Tier 1. I believe that is in the info that will be mailed?

So I believe my numbers are right ... correct me if I’m wrong.

To date:
1 Nurse
4 Marines
23 Tier 1
8 Tier 2
4 Tier 3
1 Tier 3 LREC

Anybody want to figure out the schools?

Seems like it took about a week for my DS to get the letter in the mail last year. The tier will be whatever tier his stated major on his application was. This is listed on the NROTC website. It really doesn't matter at this point what tier he is; he should just go online and accept the scholarship. He has been awarded a scholarship based on what he listed in his application.

All right, I'll do it. First is alphabetical. Second is sorted by number of firm commits. The "or" indicates possible number change based upon those that have yet to select between 2.

Even with this small sample size, the numbers hold up for the Navy options. 85% of the scholarships go to Tier 1 and Tier 2 majors (I don't think nurse numbers are counted in that figure). for our list 31 of the 36 scholarships are tier 1 and tier 2, so 86%

Update on #18. DS has decided to turn down the scholarship to VT and will attend our in-state university as a programmer in the AFROTC detachment. The Navy was always a distant second to AF and he did not receive an AFROTC scholarship. The in-state school was always his first choice, but we all fell in love with VT and its culture. Ultimately, he decided to go with his heart to AFROTC and the university that he grew up a fan of and attending football, basketball and baseball games.
Best to all in this forum and the students heading off this summer to become cadets and midshipmen!

Good luck to him! We'll miss him as a Hokie but we know you have to go with your heart!

Changing #2 from Undecided MIT or UMich to....Undecided--MIT/GaTech/VaTech. These are DD's top 3 after visiting a bunch of schools this past week. This week she will visit MIT...final decision to be made soon!!!

Hello. DD is still waiting on NROTC offer packet (email was received 3/30) or an update to the DODMETS website, so that she can schedule her medical exam. Is there anything that she can do to move this along? I would love for her to be medically qualified before May 1. Is this still possible?

Possible? Probably; but it's very likely to go beyond May 1. It seems like it took a couple weeks after scholarship notification last year for my DS to be notified to set up his medical appointments. From there, it all depends on how quickly you can get appointments scheduled and whether anything comes up that needs questionnaires filled out or remedials. For my DS, his answers to the questions online prompted him to fill out a questionnaire for head injuries, but we still were delayed because of a questionnaire for breathing that we didn't expect, because of a one time incident when he was very young. That delayed things a few weeks. If you get the notification to schedule appointments within the next few days, are able to get appointments right away and have no clearance issues, you may be done by May 1, but don't stress if it is after that. Still plenty of time. One thing to remember when filling out the online forms is not to self-diagnose or read more into the question that what is asked. Good luck.

@Nomad91 She has time. It's only the first half of April. College won't start until the middle of August. You'll be contacted with who will conduct the physical and instructions on how to proceed.

Thank you to everyone that responded. My DS is #36 on the list. Her school is incredibly expensive and it is stressing me out. I think I can relax when I see that she is medically qualified and there were no undiagnosed issues found. Her plan B & C schools are ranked in the top 10 schools for her major, so I feel bad committing to a spot that she will not use so that we have a safety net for her.

Nomad91: We had this same issue. We were extremely stressed as we did not want her to commit to ND until we knew she had the scholarship. DD was not cleared medically until April 30th. Had that not come through, she would have moved onto one of the colleges where she had full academic scholarships without needing a ROTC scholarship to cover the tuition. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and your DD.

Ah, I understand your dilemma. Just remember, if you do end up committing to a spot at plan B and/or C schools, the schools plan for a certain number of students to either not accept admissions offers or even to commit, then change course, so they admit more than they expect to actually enroll in the fall. And, once your DD is clear DODMERB, you can notify plan B/C schools that she will not be attending and they can admit off their waitlist if they choose.

As far as finding undiagnosed issues, the actual physical exam is pretty brief and cursory. They review the applicant's answers to the questionnaire and conduct a brief exam. If she has had sports physicals with no issues and no history of injury/illness that would raise questions, she should be fine. I remember how stressful this time is, but it will all work out.
