When does the first board for Navy ROTC meet? Also my son received an email that said his application was "competitive" but not exactly sure what that means. The message said this does not mean you have won a scholarship but that you will be notified if you do win. I wondered if this is essentially telling him he has been boarded?? Anyone with a better understanding of the process that can shed a little light on this?

I also have guestions about NROTC first board. My DD NROTC scholarship application portal under selection status states: No decision has been made on your application. Does it mean that she was not selected during first board? And any idea when the next board meets? I have not seen any NROTC scholarship winners yet on this forum.

My coordinator told me the third board meets October 29th. The results of the first board come out sometime in November I think...

Paralleling the experience of my DD last year, the 'no decision' status appeared about this time last year after she had completed her application and officer interview in September. Her status remained the same until the first week of February when she received a 'Congratulations' email. Naturally after she finally stopped screaming she went into the disbelief phase so she logged on to the portal to verify and her status had indeed been changed to 'Congratulations...' which leads into a link where you can hit 'accept scholarship' right then and there, which once again changes your portal status. Bear in mind that we had a government shutdown last December and the Dec board was cancelled so that may have slowed things down a bit. Interesting fact, when DD notified her cadre she was told she was one of the first 3 selected for her class, so I think it may be safe to assume that even though there are fall boards it appears the spring is the busy season. So relax, 'No decision' means just that, she's still in the game.

Also, my DD chose tier 2 physics, and she took AP physics in the fall of her senior year and got an 'A' in it. She made sure to forward an updated transcript as soon as they became available. There is a page on the NROTC website that has the email address to send application updates. They were very prompt in processing her submission via e-mail. Did that help her I don't know but I'm sure it didn't hurt. At the very least it showed continued interest and that she had indeed taken the rigorous courseload that she stated on her application with strong results.

Good luck to your DD.

Thank you for sharing this information. Good advice about updating the application. Will pass this to my DD.

I literally submitted my application 10 mins ago lol. I went through the same thing last year. It will remain no decision until the board selects or denies you.
I submitted in October of last year and only heard back in April...so the wait can be long.

My DS had a little bit of a hard time with communication from our assigned NROTC coordinator and would like to make sure this sounds correct. He finished finished his application pretty early in the process and the little communication we did receive has indicated that he had everything in, in time for the first board. I understand the NROTC portal is unlike the AROTC where is shows, ' board ready" "boarded" etc. When he checks the

Scholarship Selection/Placement System

It shows his name, SSN, DOB and then says

" Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed..."
" Your application is at your local Scholarship Coordinator/Recruiter for Initial processing...

Gives his assigned recruiter name and email address.

We do not see a section in the portal that shows selection status, or the "no decision has been made on your application" notation. He was told by his recruiter first of Aug. he was all set, but this looks like maybe the recruiter never pushed it through to the next step??

Is he on the right portal? He has reached out to his recruiter several times (phone and email) to verify all is good but he has not gotten back to us.

It is the same portal. My DD finished her application in August and when all paperwork was submited to local coordinator, her portal changed to the status you are reffering to in your post. It stayed like that for about a month and then my DD called to her coordinator. He said that he is about to send her application to Pensacola. After couple days her portal changed to something like that: your application has been received at Command Center (don’t remember the wording exactly). And finally, last week it changed again and now it states: No decision has been made on your application.
Based on our experience I would say that your DS’ application is still at his local coordinator.

For my DD, after his local coordinator confirmed all paperwork was in they scheduled him for an interview which he did over a month ago. Just within the last couple of weeks his status changed to say "No decision has been made on your application" He reached out to his local coordinator again and was assured that there is nothing more they need from him at this time. So if you have completed your interview and all paperwork then I think it is just a waiting game.

I would suggest he keeps trying to reach the coordinator until he gets through, as I'd want confirmation that everything really has been submitted. From the looks of this, it does not appear so.

Suggest to DS that he be keep trying daily to get in touch with him, something isn't complete or hasn't been forwarded. DD had a problem with a math teacher recommedadtion, her teacher left the district and had to be tracked down, she wasnt using old school email anymore. At the time DD filled out the app she had no idea her math teacher had resigned. Coordinator would have let her package rot on his desk if DD had not queried him and learned about the missing rec. After she finally got in touch with her old teacher she gave it a week and then called daily until he confirmed it had been received and her package was sent to Pensacola. Good luck.

DS finally received a text this morning. It said "the application has been sent and is lock(?) with Nashville but it should be submitted today or Monday". Not sure what "is lock" means but hopefully it is moving in the right direction. He has had no items on the, waiting to be processed section of his portal since August. Thinking his application might had been forgotten about but seems he's good for now. Thanks for the help.
