Navy ROTC NSI Travel Orders

Again, I'm dumbfounded.

Right. I ditto this, Kinnem. Hmmm.

Will those not be afforded the opportunity to attend be at a disadvantage later ?

Our DD was told UMich will not be having kids come to school early as NROTC has done in the past for an orientation period before the semester begins. They will move in with the masses. Is it possible that OSU is still implementing that strategy thus has the bases covered otherwise?

Sorry but I am in the camp that this a nice to do and not a disadvantage.
I agree. They've done without NSI for decades. I'm just amazed that they would include some and not others. Seems to me if you have to draw a line you do it between scholarship vs non-scholarship, but truth be told I'm not happy with that either. They might as well go back to the old system that included everyone.

I don't think it's gender based, but it is unfortunate. The unit reports who was chosen to go, and who was not chosen to go, was done randomly by NSI. I know they are upset with the outcome as well. Onto August and ROTC orientation now! It certainly changed our summer plans.
Upsetting to us as well, but our DD finished her orientation to OSU and is in good spirits. She is excited and ready to get started in August.
Yep - mine too! We go to orientation later in July! Go Buckeyes, Go Navy/Beat Army!

It’s crazy. Similar to the Sea Trials issue this summer, as well. With majority of them having been cancelled this summer. It’s a shame. Training is a positive thing!

Jacksonville Univ. candidate here. I got my flight itinerary and a vague packing list and thats about it. Anyone have any more information on if this cancellation is bigger than OSU?
I’m also going to NSI for session 1. I was wondering what was on the vague packing list. I was just told to bring me phone and wallet.

There was a fairly detailed breakdown posted/ shared in this thread earlier today in the form of screenshots of a unit’s correspondence. It appears to have been taken down and that may be due to those screenshots showing personal emails of some of those who had rec’d.

The packing highlights are attached. Additionally a sports physical done within the last 90 days and immunization record were noted to be hand carried along.

Thank you. This was so much more helpful than anything that I’ve received through my unit

I was under the impression that NSI was cancelled for all units. I have the NROTC scholarship at Virginia Tech and my professor of Naval Science emailed us back in April to tell us it was cancelled for all senior military colleges including Virginia Tech. Very confused....

For those that received travel orders, were they sent via email? Did they come directly from your unit, Navy central, or from the airline direct?

Senior Military Colleges is a far cry from 'all units'. There are several SMCs. There are over 60 NROTC units. SMCs have their own intense orientation program.

It came from my DS unit rep this week.

Our DD got an email tonight from her unit coordinator to expect her official travel orders and additional instructions by FedEx tomorrow (Friday). The envelope must be signed for. She leaves Monday to check in Tuesday morning at NSI.

Just received a expedited envelope from FedEx today containing my NSI orders, travel voucher, and flight itinerary today.

The packing list I received is still vague, but I'll paste it below.

BE SURE TO BRING THE FOLLOWING:

Valid Photo ID

*ORDERS – Original and five copies

*Travel Voucher – Two copies (you will sign and give one copy to the NSI staff upon completion of training)

*Flight Itinerary

Debit card, credit card or pre-paid card

Signed NROTC Standard Release Form/ Hold Harmless Form

Copy of Immunization Record

Proof of Sickle Cell Testing (if applicable)

Sports physical

Eyeglasses (if applicable)

Female hygiene products (if applicable)

One problem for me is that I got a new eye prescription and haven't gotten glasses yet, and of course now it is too late. Hopefully I can use my contacts at NSI...
