This coming weekend, both the Navy Men's and Women's Rugby Teams will be competing in the Collegiate Rugby 7's championship. As the title suggests there are 7 players on a side instead of the normal 15. It is an extremely fast paced game with lots of scoring. The best part is many of the games will be televised live on NBC. Check your local schedule for games and times.

In 2012 Rugby will be an Olympic sport and the collegiate championships were stated last year with the men's teams to help get the US ready for Rugby on a world stage. In 2011 the top women's teams join the fray for their own 7's championship. The women's teams play Friday to establish seeding and then go at it in single elimination on Sunday.

Navy Women's Rugby is one of the top Club sports teams at the Academy and is consistently ranked in the top 5 teams in the nation. That said none of the 8 women's teams invited to the tournament have ever played 7's as a team. This should be a wide open and lively tournament. As always Navy's #1 goal is to beat Army.

From a personal standpoint, I get to watch my now 2nd LT pull on a Navy jersey and play for the team she loves one last time. On Monday she reports to Quantico and starts TBS and her life as a Marine Officer.

Go Navy!

Well neither the men's or womens teams had a good tournament but for those of you that watched it was excitieing and the games were close. One thing that is a fact is that men's or women's rugby players are some of the best atheletes at the Academy.

For the in-comming class of 2015, both teams get 100% of their players as walk-ons. You will get a chance to check them out durring plebe summer if you are interested.
