Anyone here familiar with softball at Navy? Wondering in terms of how competitive it is to earn a spot on the team. Since there's no D1 team I would assume that the club team is mostly full with girls who played in highschool/had offers to play in college. I didn't play in highchool since it wasn't offered but am very interested in trying out for the navy team

i know nothing about the team

but many navy club sports are quite good and have won national championships.. The softball team is one that has won the nationals.

I would guess they were all good hs or club players.

My DD is a candidate and a softball player. We got to meet the coach and watch a few games a couple of weeks ago. The team is well coached, very competitive and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would say for sure the girls were all club and or HS players. The coach was great and you should reach out via the link provided.

Hopefully you and my DD will get to meet at tryouts in August :)

the link above says the coaches do not recruit

While the coaches don’t recruit, since they are not an ncaa activity, the coaches can help prospective students, with the admissions process. :)

Sounds a bit like some sort of soft recruiting,

That's been my DD's experience. She was left with very positive impressions :)

Good for her. An extra positive check mark can make a difference with admissions. Or with prep school.
We have fingers crossed over here :) Cool thing is that when she filled out the questionnaire, she was pretty down on softball so almost didn't do it. Since then she's really re-found her love of the game (as a parent it was awesome to see). So the coach contacting her was just icing on that cake. And then seeing the girls play and the camaraderie and fun on the team got her really excited.

Navy softball team member here:) We do not recruit, however, some of our girls came up early (ex. I lived in the area, emailed her and she invited me to a practice) and got to practice with the team and she can say whether or not she thinks you'll have a spot. The team is mostly girls who played in HS, some had offers, some didn't. It is a wide range of past experiences. The competitiveness is great! It's competitive enough to be a great mix of fun and serious. It's not high school ball where every game is 20-0 and it's not college D1 teams smacking us. I would say it is above high school and somewhere between a D3ish-D2 level. We would love to have you!!! Come try out and if you are in town, come to a game. We have a few coming up. Please msg me if you would like to know more.
