Navy Wins! At last.

Offense is massively improved. That opening drive was epic. Huge sea change. Hard to make big impact when playing against the refs for a non clipping call.

MIDN Lavatai was just getting pummeled last night. Tough man but the body can only take so much. The "playing without a helmet" and clipping penalties were killers. The MIDN just could not momentum on their side. I just hope the point differential next week is under 40. UC has become a monster in "Podunk" Ohio.

Also no significant fans in the stands. IMO that helps.

Bearcats are one of the best coached teams in the country.
The mighty can fall, and fall hard..
There is a Youtube video of one of the greatest sporting events I have ever seen in my life ..Navy v. South Carolina, I think it was '83 or '84. South Carolina came in ranked #2 in the Country, and ran straight into a buzz saw. I don't think I have ever seen a team as fired up as Navy that day-- the had some early success, and then just poured on the coal and kick South Carolina's a$$.

(Best sporting event in my life was Navy's first win over Notre Dame , probably 10-15 years ago now -triple overtime; I couldn't talk for a week)

Or this one

As a USMA grad I have to weigh in on what is happening with Navy football this year. It is painful for me to watch as I always root for all three academies to have successful football programs (except when I am rooting against Air Force and Navy when they play Army). I am well acquainted with the slide Navy is going through as Army went through the same cycle for nearly two decades with only a few winning seasons thrown in here and there. At the end of the day it is hard for service academies to consistently recruit good players year in and year out. There will be those years (or decades in the case of Army) where the program suffers. Coach N at Navy has run a highly successful program during his tenure and will certainly return Navy to its fine form at some point in the near future. These are the seasons where we just have to grin and bear these tough losses. As a side note my oldest boy is a 3/C cadet at West Point and his younger brother has LOAs to both USMA and USNA for the Class of 2026 (and is SERIOUSLY considering breaking family tradition...yikes!). I will be happy with either choice he makes as I know he will make the most of the opportunities afforded to him by either academy/military service. Wishing all Navy football fans the best for the rest of the season - except when they play Army in December :) Beat Navy!

I can watch that over and over .... it was truly amazing to see it in person ! The Navy fans in the stadium were going crazy.

I went to two other Navy-Notre Dame games before - 1984, I took my Uncle and Cousin to a game in the Meadowlands, Navy lost in the final seconds. A few year before the 2007 win, I went to South Bend with one of my law partners (a double 'Domer (undergrad and law school, and also USMCR Colonel), and we lost in the final seconds again. The 2007 win was many years in the making, and the best sporting event I have ever been to.

I was in my office in DTA for that N@ND game. Everyone poured into the streets of Naptown, horns were honking, crazy. It had been decades since Navy beat ND.

I was working in the press box when Navy defeated #2 South Carolina in '84. The Orange Bowl folks were there, with little oranges in their lapels, ready to extend an invitation to SC (things worked differently in those days re bowl games). The press was there to cover the unbeaten season. It was all going to be perfect. Navy looked good early on, but everyone was confident that SC would come back. Until they didn't. No one could believe that Navy not only won but actually looked dominant doing it.

At the end of the game, all of the press people ran for the bank of phones (no cell phones in those days either). It reminded me of a scene in the movie Airplane when a bunch of reporters all run into the phone booths at the same time and the whole bank falls over with them in it! Complete apoplexy among those who had come to crown the champions.

SC did not get the Orange Bowl bid, which cost their program more than $1M.

As the great Herman Edwards says, "It's why you play the game!"

I didn't pick Navy to win against UCF but Temple looks better than I thought. I'm not ready to yet bump my win prediction to three. I'm staying at two wins on the season.
Tulsa is one of the teams I had Navy winning against and they did last night 20-17. A win against ECU and Temple is possible but both those teams are looking like a tough game. Temple plays UCF at noon today and that game will give us a better look at what they have.

Navy looked pretty good last night. Good to get a win. Definitely have a chance to win a few more games this year. Have to clean up special teams. ND is always one of those games, regardless of record, that Navy tends to play well. I don’t think ND has a bye week this week, which always helps anyone Navy plays.
