Hello all, I have a few questions regarding the DodMERB!
I have a prior history with asthma and ADD, both are things of the past. I stopped taking my medication for both around the 4th grade and have been successful mentally and physically ever since. However, and here is the problem, my doctor would still prescribe me medication for both as a "precautionary" measure, the prescriptions were filled and ended up never used. I can prove this through my doctor, parents, and my teachers all testifying to my success in class and to the fact that I never used my medication or never used an IEP. I was captain of my hockey team for two years and I know my coaches will testify to the fact that I never struggled with the physical aspect of practice or during games, the only game I missed was because I was puking my guts out. With all this in mind, do y'all think my chances are slim with regards to being considered fit to serve. Lastly is the urine test on the DoDMERB for drugs? I'm not concerned but Ive been told to not drink a lot of water as it can make the sample diluted which can seem suspicious and can, in some cases, fail you. In my eyes, it looks pretty grim. Any suggestions or help would be extremely appreciated!

Answer the questions honestly and what happens happens.
DoDMERB is not really interested in the opinions of non medical professionals.
They will never ask for a statement from your coach. You could include one with a remedial but it is best to send only what they ask for.
In any case if there is a remedial you can contact your DoDMERB tech to see if you could/should include such a statement.
There is not a urine test at that stage.
I will say that drinking a lot of water is not as suspicious as asking about drinking a lot of water.
The best way to pass a drug test is to not do drugs.

I didn't mean to sound suspicious sorry! I recognize that nobody in the military should even think about doing drugs. I actually look forward to ROTC as it gives me an excuse to not get ragged on by my friends to go out and party or other crap like that. Do you think that my specific case is going to be difficult to get by with?

No idea.
People have gotten waivers for both in the past, so there is a chance.
There are too many variables to be sure for anyone on here to give an definitive answer.

My advice would be "don't give them anything they don't ask for"! most times additional info or questions tends to elicit more questions and possible delays or problems. I would think that if you asthma and ADD were "juvenile" and not diagnosed or treated in the last 24 months you would likely be a candidate for a waiver. you didn't say whether or not you are trying for an SA or ROTC program? SA's are much more strict in their medical admissions, but saying that, if you are considered a "top candidate", I have read others post that almost anything short of vision, hearing, or severe physical injury with parts still inside you are able to be waived. Remember though, each SA does their own waivers, not DoDMerb!

Good Luck and keep positive thoughts and stay in touch with your service contacts.
