In this screenshot from the USNA site, can someone explain the numbers in the Nominating Categories section? It seems like all of the other sections are referencing the class of 2027 specifically. But there can't be 4,908 students in that class that were nominated by MOCs if the class has only 1,183 students total. What do the numbers mean in this category? Total applicants given a nomination?

That seems like nominations in general for the 2027 Admissions Cycle. For example, I highly doubt that half the class is there with a Presidential Nomination. 5350 would be the theoretical number if each MOC had 10 nominees. Some might have 20 if it's their 5th year in the cycle. The 4908 shows that not all nominations are used because there is a shortage of qualified applicants (for the nominations board) or applicants in general. Also, it is not uncommon for applicants to be eligible for multiple nominations. So from a non-competitive state, you could see an applicant with 3 or 4 nominations as a result of application numbers for their 3 MOC and their family background (e.g. Presidential Nom is for children of career military personnel).

Makes sense, thank you!

This are not Class of 27 stats as the noms are not all in yet. There absolutely are MOCs who submit slates with just 1 or 2 candidates because that is all who applied to them. There are MOCs who submit zero some years. Almost all of the folks with Presidential and NROTC/NJROTC noms will also be applying for MOC noms.

Luckily my son only had 6 apply for USNA.

Shoot!! I meant to write "Class of 25" - yes, these stats are NOT from Class of 27 and I can't see how to go back and edit my original post. Sorry for the confusion!
