So, I received an acceptance letter and a high scholarship to MMI USAFA prep, my problem is I have 2 weeks to let them know of my decisions to accept the scholarship. The problem is I am set upon attending USAFA. I wanted to know if there is any way I can politely ask about the chances of my waiver being considered so I can see my rankings? Thank you.

My DS was also accepted to MMI (with a Presidential Scholarship). He is applying to USMA and USAFA and is in a similar situation as yours. My advice would be to accept the MMI scholarship you have been offered by submitting the signed form and $200 deposit. You will have until May 1st, 2020 to make a final decision on MMI. If you are accepted to USAFA then MMI will reimburse your $200 deposit. Best of luck!

Does anyone know how Norwich stacks up to MMI for Academy Prep?

Both programs will prepare you for the rigors of a SA program (depending on how hard you work to prepare yourself of course). MMI has a very successful track record of preparing candidates for SA acceptance because its one year Service Academy Program mimics the academics of year one at a SA. As a SMC Norwich will equally prepare you for a SA as long as you take the correct course load during your first year.

Our DS accepted a round 1 NROTC to Norwich, and he is still waiting to hear from USNA and USMMA. We have been really happy with the research we have done about Norwich and the support offered to cadets. During his interviews they asked about a Plan B, he shared it with them and the Alumnus on the panel all said good things about Norwich and shared smiles. As mom, I am sad he may be 2656 miles away, but he is happy with the Plan B in place. Admissions at Norwich has been great, very personal 1 on 1 communications. They also offered 4 years room and board. Good luck to you!

I’m glad your DS likes Norwich. One word of caution.

My DS was accepted to Norwich and was awarded both a ROTC and Presidential Scholarship. In essence we had a full ride. We told them he was waiting on USAFA and USNA. We were told by admissions that we could secure his plan B (Norwich) and they would refund any deposit if he were to get an appointment. They also made clear they were fine being his plan B and would hold his spot until I Day. They were very nice about it at the time and we felt very good about everything.

Fast forward to April and DS accepted an appointment to USAFA. When I called Norwich to notify them they pulled his acceptance and refused the refund his deposit.

My issue was not that they did not refund the deposit or hold his spot, rather, it was that they told me they would and then backed out on it. Since we had an SA appointment I let it drop but it left me with a very negative impression of their integrity as an institution.

Not trying to be negative but that was our experience.

That stinks. I am sorry you had that experience. Maybe it comes down to individual humans making decisions and one made the wrong one. The only good news for me is their deposit requirement this go round is under $300. Have to secure that spot while waiting for SA's. Happy to hear your son earned USAFA. Thanks for the insight.

Agreed on the $300. That really didn't bother me. It was the principle of it.
