Hello all,

Being the first from my small private school to receive an appointment to a SA, I had to go through much of the process blindly. I am working on a project for my school to create a "guide" to applying to the SAs with a different section for the important things such as DODMERB, CFA, Nominations, Summer Seminar, and the like. I know I do not have near enough of a complete understanding of the application process to do a good job on my own, so I thought I would ask y'all for some help. My goal is to make the process more accessible to those at my school and give the SAs a spotlight since many do not even know they exist or what they are. I have been on SAF almost daily and will use much of the information I have learned here. I was wondering if some of the more experienced members have any insight or advice on what to be sure to include, tidbits of knowledge, useful resources or anything that could be of use in my endeavor. Thanks in advance!!

Be sure to cite and use primary sources, not rely on anecdotal experiences or assumptions or hearsay.

A good first step is to read every page, link and drop-down or hamburger menu item on SA websites, the primary source. Steer people to those sources when you can, instead of interpreting.

Does your school have an assigned BGO? They are a valuable resource.

Beyond that, I find the biggest thing with an SA, is that students often start thinking about it ‘late’. As in, the process starts sooner than other colleges. With deadlines sooner as well. So I would say ‘big picture’ would be:

Start early
Attend your nominating source Academy days
Check primary source websites
Connect with you school counselor about plans

Beyond that, the details of applying are laid out well at primary source. Including nominating sources.
