New Book about Merchant Mariners

That should be an interesting book. My great uncle, who survived 3 ship sinkings as a Norwegian Merchant Mariner during the war, went back to sea a few years after the war and sailed until around 1980- he had nightmares pretty much every night until he died in 1991. When my Dad and Uncle both went to Ft Schuyler (NY Maritime) in the 50's - he definitely tried to dissuade them from doing so. The guys sailing these ships had a tough life during the War and for a long time weren't recognized for their efforts.

Oh, that poor man! How tragic to have suffered so long from PTSD!

My uncle barely nicked the war years at KP - he was in the class of '48 (started in '45, it was only a three year program then). He's thrilled that his greatjnephew is planning on being a Kings Pointer!
