Hello everyone!

I'm LCpl Hoover. I'm a V22 Crew Chief (as my name so obviously entails) stationed on MCAS Miramar and I currently have a package in for this year. I'm a little nervous considering I can't go to NAPS due to my age, but I am really confident in my package and got LORs from my high school teachers, through college instructors, to Aircrew school instructors. I'm working on just proving that I really want to be there. I'm really happy to be a part of this!

Fingers Crossed

Welcome, and best of luck! Sounds like you've already got a lot going for you - how long have you been working with V22s?

Yeah, neat might be a bit of an understatement! I worked on and around civilian aircraft for several years back in the 70s & 80s but they were boring compared to the Osprey. We were out in your area last summer - all around San Diego area for our daughter's softball tourney and I was sure I saw one flying off-shore but I never got a chance to get closer.

Again, thanks for service already given - and if USNA is your dream then I hope that's where you will be serving soon.

I appreciate it! They sure are a wondrous sight the first time you see one of them convert. Even better on the inside lol

Hey, Lcpl. - best of luck to you. Are you a college grad? My son is a reapplicant. Did not get in a high school sr. for class of 2015. Is now a LCpl in Reserves going to college hoping
this time. OOHRAH!

Yes, i finished my associates before I joined. In retrospect I should have just applied to the academy then, or stayed in and went to OCS but I am thankful for the experience I have had so far.

You will do well. My son applied in 2010 senior year and got MoC nomination in Nov. But he also wanted to experirnce boot camp like his brother and sister so he entered DEP. Plan was if he was rejected, he would go to boot camp and MOS after graduation, start college and reapply. He chose Reserves so he could also go to college. If it doesn,t work out this time as enlisted he is looking into PLC and OCS. He will be 20 this summer, have 2 years service time and a year of college so I guess that is good. More than one way to resch the goal and oh yes, the SS GI Montgomery Bill which helps a lot

Good deal for him! I earned the SecNav nomination. I'm currently walking on pins and needles though before I find out about the board's decision though ha

Yeah, my son told MOC when asked 1st time what would happen if he was not appointed that they would see him again. He interviwed again this time in uniform and again got nomination. He also got SECNAV which I think you need for enlisted. It is nerve wracking.

I too am an enlisted sailor looking to go to USNA. I am an aviation macinist mate (AD) working on HH-60H right now. Im stationed out of NAVSTA Norfolk. I first shipped late February and graduated bootcamp late April, came to my first command July after A school. So just passed a year in now, I will be 19 in May. I wasnt able to finish my application for class of 2017 because of how new I was to my squadron and my CO wants to see more of me before he will send his approval for a secnav nomination. With that being said I did get very familar with the long application process and look forward to starting it right back up April 1st!

At least you will be way ahead of the pack man. But remember, the CO can revoke his recommendation at any time, so focus on your job, prove that you are officer material.

Joel - Hi, same thing with my son last year. While in MOS school he was able to obtain recommendation from CO and Secnav. However he had still not reported to his unit until March so same thing. He also needed recommendations from 2 Sr. Officers in Chain of Command. They needed him to be there to evaluate him. Hopefully this time.

Hey what's up man, let me know when you hear back about your package. Joel Bradford, I'm on the Truman out of Norfolk. Sounds like you have everything squared away but if you ever need some help or anything next year just let me know.

I appreciate it dude. Hopefully I will be right there with you this summer. I'm ready to find out ha.

Hey I apologize I have not been on my account lately, work has been really busy. I am glad to hear similar situations! I am really looking forward to putting my application in this year. I do have a couple questions for those who did put in packages as enlisted sailors, or knows those who did. Do I need to restart my package. For example resend everything online/ restart the preliminary application? Or can I use the same I did last year? Another pertains to the CO recommendation. I am under the impression I need to type up the recommendation include all my qualifications, duties, etc. and the CO endorses it? Does anyone have any knowledge with this those who did get accepted how they did their CO recommendation.

Joel - My son (USMC Reserves) has been through this. Everything has to be resubmitted. You can do preliminary application now but you are in limbo until you get a new candidate number. He got his last May so only a few weeks. Yes, you have to type with all your info and sign form and give to your CO to sign and recommend again. The sooner it gets back to them, sooner you can get SECNAV nomination. My son got SECNAV within day of his CO sending back. GOOD lUCK!

Joel - rereading your post, assuming you did not get very far in application for 2017. When you get your candidate number, contact SCPO Ephraim Maxwell. He is in charge of enlisted and will basically be your B/G Officer. He will email you a copy of form for your CO. You have to type and hand into your CO. In preliminary app, since looks like you have not been out of high school that long, they ask for validation of candidate activities. This also has to be validated by a senior officer in your chain of command even though they have no idea of what you did in high school. Hope this helps.

Yes thank you for your response. You are correct last year for class of 2017 I was so new to my command and still doing my TAD and C school, my application got as far as; passing DODMERB, sending in SATs and high school transcripts, and doing the personal information part of the online application. I was stuck on getting my COs recommendation and what I could even type up for him to endorse. Now being at my command for some time now I have some good strong qualifications and actually some things I could put down for the CO recommendation. Also being so close to Annapolis, I went up for a candidate visitor weekend and met with SCPO Maxwell he did have a lot of great info. I am going to pm you a little more in depth question about the CO recommendation. Thank you again!
