New Format

It's concerning when I go onto New Profile Post, it appears those are personal messages with private information (users using their real names, phone numbers, email etc.) displayed for public consumption.

Seems ALL the PM's are now PUBLIC! Folks share private info in PMs and now it's out there. With all the threats against military families and other nonsense ---that all REALLY needs to be protected!!!

Is a "conversation" also the same thing as a PM? If so, I think that is where a lot of the confusion is stemming from. Folks are confusing "profile posts" with "conversations" thinking that profile posts are PM's.

A solution would be to rename "conversation" to Private Message. That would hopeful clear up things.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. I'm happy to provide clarification on these concerns.

Profile Posts have always been publicly available in both our previous software system (vBulletin) and the current software system (XenForo). This has not changed. There have not been a large number of profile posts made since the software switch, so the vast majority of posts were made under the previous software. If any of your personal information was shared, please contact us and we will address it on a case by case basis.

What used to be Private Messages are now called Conversations. These have never been publicly available, in either our previous software system or our current software system. To assist in the transition, I have renamed several of the Conversations phrases to "Private Conversation(s)".

Both Profile Posts and Conversations (previously, Private Messages) are designed to provide additional methods for interaction in our community. We enable them to allow our members to communicate in multiple ways best suited for them and their needs.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We value our members' privacy and look forward to addressing any other concerns.

Thank you for your time.

Search function is improved.

Under the new system, we can see this site is very popular with robots. Is there going to be a RobOTC scholarship?

I really like the new software. It has a much more professional appearance, hence, I can get away with reading the forums when I'm at work because it doesn't look so much like a forum. However, I scroll down as I read through the latest posts, scrolling, scrolling, down, down, and then I get to the bottom of the page, and now what I need, as I sit here at the bottom of the page, is that link that's at the top that says "New Posts." Kind of wish that one was on the bottom too. I mean, it's not a big deal. You can just hit "top" to get back up there to hit the "new posts" link. It's just one of those things I always wished for in the old forum, but never mentioned, so here I am mentioning it, just in case.

Again, I really appreciate all the work on the new format. Clean, professional, easy to navigate. Well done.

On the first page a font color of pure black instead of blue would be appreciated by my old eyes.

Perhaps an active topics section where the most recently created (or posted on) threads are stack updated to a certain limit?

I like the new format - pretty cool!
Only problem I have is the search now doesn't let you look for something if it's too many/few characters. I often search my congressional state and district to see if anyone has gotten noms/appointments (instead of going to individual appointment threads, etc.) and now whenever I try to it gives me a warning because there are too few characters. Is this fixable?

Thank you for the feedback. For now, I've added this feature and we'll see how it works for searches. It can sometimes cause unwanted search results, so at some point we may have to revert the changes.

Thank you for the feedback. I've updated the navigation bar text size, color, and bolded the text, but that may not have been the text you are referring to. Which text is it that you're referencing?

Based on your feedback, we're looking into this.

Thank you everyone for your compliments and suggestions.

Not a format issue per se, but is it possible to add a new sticky on the ROTC forum. It would be great if you added an Interview sticky. It comes up quite frequently and instead of reiterating the same information over and over again, posters can direct them to the sticky.

Granted I am sure many posters/lurkers will not notice it or may decide to ignore it, but at least it would be there.

Let me know what thread you would like to make a sticky and we can look into it.

TN,

Just some suggestions for stickies because some are coming up more frequently with importance.

1. DoDMERB vision
~ Color Deficiency Vision for DoDMERB regardless of the branch matters. Vision itself matters. PRK/Lasik. Glasses/contacts etc.
~~ Maybe you guys could have an FAQ on DoDMERB.
~~~ It just keeps coming up over and over again
Hornets link also matters from the color deficiency.
2. ROTC
~ Tax issues
~~ R & B are taxable
~ The differences between the 3 branches
~~ Clarkson, Jcleppe, EDelahanty, Bama can give great insight for AROTC...superscore, school selection
~~ Kinnem can give insight for NROTC...superscore, school selection, college programmer
~~ Sled, Non Dcor Duco can give insight for AFROTC.... best sitting SFT, AFOQT, TBAS
I know many will still ignore the stickies and post, but at least posters can say look at the stickies.
This is a god send to many posters, and I believe everyone from the bottom of their heart thanks you.
A while ago, but on the new format, I was able to directly link a gif to a posting, without there having to be a link, but I can't do that anymore. Was this changed, or am I just doing something wrong?
I apologize for the delayed response.
Thank you very much for the recommendations. The moderator team is reviewing these and will let you know what we decide.
You should be able to add attachments to posts. You can find the "Upload a File" option in the advanced text editor (click "More Options" in the thread reply box).
Please let me know if that still isn't working for you.
Do you have control of the emo-cons? We use to have a great one that was the bowing down, but it no longer exists. Is there a way to bring that back?
