my daughter just got an appointment to the AF academy Wednesday and I wanted to update the appointment thread but I have no idea what DD or DS stands for. I’m sorry! Will someone please explain? Thank you!

DD= dear daughter
DS= dear son
Congrats on her appointment. I strongly suggest you take time and peruse the acronym thread. She will come home for Thanksgiving and it will be natural for her to speak in acronyms.

I remember when we came home for the 1st time after we got married (8 mos earlier) and I can still recall what I said, that came out naturally, but my friends and family turned to me and said can you now speak English ?Congrats on her appointment. Yep . . . like . . . AOC, SAMI, ORI, IRI, Form-10, PFT, BCT, R-Flight, DNF, TDY, Firstie, GR, SAR, just to name a few . . .
Love this! My starter marriage was to an A-7 pilot who was an LSO on the Forrestal. I was an MBA student and I decided to learn how to "write" for the LSOs...essentially shorthand notes for what they were observing as they watched a pilot "bounce" (practice on a landing field). I had to learn how pilots talk about how they land on the carrier. Unexpected bonus: I realized that people talk more openly about what they are going through in their own language; without pausing to translate. Now, more than 30 years later, I'm already seeing that with DS as we go through this processI think you'll be happier (and so will your mid/cadet) if you make some effort to learn the basics
