New Student Indoctrination (Summer 2019)

They made no effort to have folks attend as a unit, so I wold expect folks from the same school to be attending different sessions.

My DS's welcome letter stated that their unit from ERAU would attend the second session together.

^ I didn't say there weren't folks that might attend as a unit, simply that it wasn't a goal.

Still waiting on the NSTC document but need exact info to plan family trips. Wondering if anyone has received the NSI Cycle-I order and schedule? If so, can you share the arrival and graduation part? Thanks.

Nothing here either for my DS on session timing or travel. Only this re-confirmed was physical and immunization requirement.

DD received the following email listed below and was wondering if anyone else received the same info. My daughter’s high school will be doing sports physicals next week and she was just going to get it done there but now I think we will actually need to go to her primary care doctor since she will also need to get this blood work done. I haven't had the chance to look through if she got test at birth but I highly doubt she got it done 17 years ago. I wish they were more specific as well about what kind of sports forms we're supposed to use. Are we all to assume we just use what the high school uses?

Also just fyi- DD will be attending the 1st session. My husband spoke to her LT from the college and they will be setting up her flight to get there. We're just not sure if they plan to fly her back. We decided to go there for the graduation portion and we could just take her home with us.

"Great Lakes will be implementing universal training procedures at NSI which will include determination of sickle cell trait status. I am reaching out to all my candidate midshipman and am requesting that you review your medical records or inquire with your parents to see if you have been tested for sickle cell trait. Sickle cell trait testing has been part of newborn screening in several states for many years. You may have to request records from your primary care provider from shortly after birth. If available, you should provide a copy to me and hand carry a copy to NSI along with their sports physical and immunization record.
Negative and positive responses are required to me no later than 30 June."

Does anyone know much about what it’ll be like? Is it supposed to be closer to Plebe summer? Are they giving you your uniforms then?
DS one of 66 who attended last year. It’s been modified for this year, but was a rigorous 2 weeks designed to instill military bearing. Hydration and moleskin are a must. Look at Facebook postings and the YouTube video to get an idea. Some uniforms and gear were distributed. The rest comes during 4C year.

Does anyone know the logistics for those who fly in? The Welcome letter says candidates traveling by air can expect to travel the day prior to the start of NSI. Does the Navy coordinate the overnight stay and transportation after landing at O'Hare or do the candidates manage that on their own?
For INDOC last year, Navy coordinated pick up and transport from the OHare USO for arrival and departure.

I do not believe my DS received this information, but now feel I need to go back and check! We moved up his sports physical by a week so we could get this moving along and his air travel made with his unit. He's also going the first session of NSI.

Out of curiosity? I know Midshipman are paid for Summer Cruises, will they be paid for NSI as well?

Instructions say to bring one set of clothing. Is this saying they want an additional set of clothing apart from what my son is wearing?
What clothing is appropriate? Long pants and collared shirt? Shorts? Tees?

Also, My son wears glasses. Anyone have a recommendation on bands that will hold the glasses to his head? I know some are better than others.

My son received his NROTC scholarship to UPenn. Any other UPenn NROTC parents here?

Thanks

Have your DS contact the unit to get an official answer, or any other number they gave you to contact for questions. My own guess is to bring the clothes on his back, some toiletries, and whatever else they told him to bring. I expect they'll be wearing utility uniforms the entire time, but again I'm just making a reasonable guess.
