New Student Indoctrination (Summer 2019)

There are some lists listed here and school to school they have varied in format and detail. That’s why this a great resource.

MY DS
Has the following
Photo ID
Travel Orders 5 copies
NROTC release form
Copy of his physical that was done in the last 90 days
Copy of his airline tickets
Boarding pass (PDF and Mobile copy on his phone)
Broken in running shoes
Proper civilian attire for his flight on Mon and check in on Tuesday
A $200 prepaid Visa card for personal hygiene ($100.98)and incidentals ($100)at the Navy Exchange. (Females $144.19 for personal hygiene)
His cell phone and a charger and cord (we got him a heavy duty pelican case to store his phone and wallet in so his phone screen in protected)

Ready and doing research last year was a NSI beta test with a two week session for a smaller group of rising 4th year students, this year is the first national 3 week NSI with two sessions so there is bound to be some kinks in the system rolling it out nationally.

I am very excited that the Navy has created this program so the Midn have an opportunity to attend as the NROTC Class of 2023 and have a jump start as leaders in the Fleet.

Plus personal hygiene supplies for Monday into Tuesday

T-minus a few hours until my flight to NSI. Still unclear about many things, but hopefully I have everything. This forum has been very helpful in coordinating information that wasn't shared to everyone, so thank you everyone! I plan to make a thread to go into detail about NSI and what to bring, expect, etc. As soon as I come back on the 22nd!

Be flexible and take this uncertainty as part of training for military life. Roll with it, be adaptive. These are good JO skills. And we will look forward to your AAR and LL reports! After-action Report and Lessons Learned.

Just to clear up something on my mind, I have been seeing that check in for NSI is Tuesday and the flights are obviously on Monday. Are we staying at Great Lakes for Monday night or do we need to get a hotel room for that night?

My DS feels the same way... you've all go this! You don't know what you don't know. Soak it up and as they say in the USMC, Semper Gumby! He's packed and has re-read all the paperwork received and hopes he's ready to hit the ground running.

My son's paperwork says report to the USO in Terminal 2 at ORD. They will take care of you from there!

Our DD is leaving tomorrow. She didn’t get an exact list that is shown below. Just bits and parts of it. We aren’t sure if she’s allowed to bring her cell phone. Our only worry with that is if her flight changes or she needs to contact her point of contact front be college-if she’s going to have to ask around the airport if she can use their phone or computer. She received a list of what to bring but it didn’t say that said she needs 5 copies of her orders, running shoes, glasses, medications, or cell phone. Not sure why all candidates going didn’t get this same list??

What travel order? I’m part of the UC Berkeley Unit and I got no official travel orders only a email that says what to do when I land. Are those the orders you’re talking about? I haven’t read anything that I’ve been sent that told me to bring 5 copies of travel orders.

Anyone know about things to sleep in... I’m flying and I packed a pair of basketball shorts and a T-shirt? No? Yes? I’m assuming they don’t expect me to sleep in khakis and a polo, but I guess you never know haha!

My guess is that you will not need to get a hotel. They will have you check in at the USO upon arrival and then move busloads to Great Lakes as they get enough students. Monday will be tons of waiting with brief moments of “organized chaos”.

No one will dictate what you sleep in.

The bag they are having us bring are for that one night, anyone flying in goes in one day early. Everyone else is schedule in for check-in on Tuesday

My daughter just told me Indoc is cancelled - no funding. Did anyone else hear that?
Do you know where she heard it from? I haven't heard anything from my unit coordinator.

I am going to NSI this year, I haven’t heard anything about the Indoc being cancelled

Definitely not cancelled. We are driving over to Chicago from State College, PA now to drop our DD off tomorrow. She got her travel orders Friday afternoon though was advised of her dates some time ago.

That said , unfortunately, there have been some kids who will not get to attend with their units in what was reported here as a funding issue and then later not enough spots for more females (gut punch).
