With the new weight standard, do you have to meet the max weight and be lower than 18% BMI?

The last 3 years I've been above the max weight but I have been at 16% BMI. I'm curious because I would need to cut a lot of weight before commissioning if this is the new standard.

Thanks.

I would think that your cadre would have all the most up-to-date information readily available for you.

The AFROTC website just lists maximum weight for each height. No mention of BMI.

AFI 36-2905 tells you everything you need to know, when it comes to alternate ways of figuring body composition.
It can be all about the Abdominal Circumference (AC), apparently.

This is the new standard. It’s 16% and under not 18%. The measurements can be found in AFI 36-2905.

Thanks for the reply, the memorandum you attached says 18% is the max. Also I do not meet the 174lb for 70inches but I'm below the 18% max (I'm at 16%). My confusion is, do I need to be below 174lbs and be below the % for commissioning?

Sorry I meant 18%. And yes for commissioning and contracting. I’m commissioning in 37 days and I have to lose a few pounds in order to be under 18% because you do not want to chance anything like this. You do not need to be under 174 at all, as long as when the measure your neck and above the naval areas and it equals to under 18% you’ll be good. I’m 72 inches and I’m 210sih and there’s no way I weigh 184 in 37 days. It’s possible but not healthy. I’m 18% right now.

Okay good, yeah I'm 70inches and 200lbs. I would look crazy at 174. My concern is that my cadre said I had to be below both, which was confusing. I'm always below the 18% when they do the neck and navel tests.
