New York Nominations

Doing my applications for Gillibrand, Schumer, and Latimer, and was wondering if anyone has gone through them and their process. Does anyone know if New York is really that competitive, and I may not end up getting a nomination for either? Is there an advantage to submitting it earlier? If so, I would have to keep nagging my teachers to complete their letters of rec, and I'd rather have them do it on their own time.
Also, for the interviews, does anyone have a rundown of how it goes (who does it, questions asked, etc) or any specific tips?

Yes, NY is very competitive. Due dates for Senator Gillibrand and Schumer are the 12th & 15th of October, 2026, respectively. There are no advantages to be early. But, with my NY students, we are sure to submit the applications two weeks ahead just for a 'margin of safety.' You should have time in September when school reconvenes to collect the letters. No reason not to draft your essays/personal statements for them along with collecting all the different components now.

For your interview, be prepared to talk about your resume/experiences, your leadership and leadership lessons learned. Why are you interested in service? How have you prepared?

Senators are very competitive. They try not to duplicate nominations.

Depends on the district for house. Bronx/Westchester likely competitive.

My son’s district wasn’t competitive at all to him.
