Has anyone heard from either of the NY Senators--Clinton or Schumer? My son had interviews with both, and has heard nothing, one way or another.

I remember reading on either this site or CC that someone heard from Clinton. Have you checked your on line status? It should show who you have noms from. If I recall right, yesterday was cut-off date for noms, so you should hear very soon.

If you don't hear anything by next week, I would have your child call and ask if they have submitted their list?

I know that for NC, the noms were in by the 10th of Jan. Dole's were in @ 22 of Dec. and Burr's were in by the 10th. I can't speak for the reps, but we got our reps nom @12th of Jan. I know that he was later than other reps who are on this board.

Just looked on CC...it was driving me crazy b/c I wasn't sure if senility was setting in

Someone on CC got their nom from Clinton on Dec.27th for USMA...sorry.

I would call them and see, but 1st look on line...I know AFA, has all of my ds's noms listed. Maybe the mailman didn't deliver it (it was @ christmas time).

For the AFA, we received a postcard (computer generated) ea time he received a nom saying you received a nom from XXX, shortly after it being listed and receiving a letter from the source. I am not sure if every SA does this.

I didn't realize Clinton still cared about the people of New York.

Not sure Clinton ever did care about the people of New York - had an eye on the "prize" from day one.

Clinton's office, I understand from my son, conducted a very good interview and he felt good about it. It took place in November. But, here it is February, and no word, one way or another--and not on his status page.

Schumer's interview team said that he would hear from them in January, one way or another. Schumer only interviewed 25 for each SA.

Good thing he has a nomination from his Congressman!

I'm curious what part of the state you are from. We have had tried to contact both Senators offices multiple times with no responses. My D did not get an interview with either although Schumer's office finally left a message telling us that his office had not set their dates for interviews in this area as of yet...?? (we are in Rochester). We finally gave up. Like you said- we are so thankful for our MOC's nomination.

We are from Long Island. Both Senators' offices are on 3rd Avenue and NYC. Sen. Clinton's committee's interview was quite formal and they apparently did them all day on this one particular day. Sen. Schumer's was a few weeks later, and they contacted my son by phone and gave him a choice of several different dates. As you might remember, Sen. Schumer's instructions for sending in the package were very precise; eg. staples, not paper clips; compiled in a certain order. The interview was very short and much more informal than Sen. Clinton's, with two people from his office doing the interview.

It was a great learning experience for my son, being prepared, and handling some tough questions. His BGO was impressed that he had gotten interviews from all three MOCs. But we are disappointed that the senators' offices haven't advised him either way at this point.

I contacted Shumers office this week and was told that my son did not make the top 25 so he was not interviewed.

I also contacted Clinton's office this week. They did interview my son. I think in December. In mid January they told me they were still reviewing interview results. This week they told me they would get back to me. Still waiting!

In both cases above I called the local office and asked them for the update. I got tired of getting voice mail in the NY city office.

Thank god my son has his MOC Nomination

Well, at least we don't feel alone in this!

I know the deadline for the USAFA is January 31. I don't recall if it is the same for the USNA.

For anyone who did get a nomination from Schumer or Clinton, can you list your stats. Also, what were some of the interview questions for their offices. If anyone is from Long Island, where was your interview (at which office -Melville or NYC)? I will also apply for my rep. nomination. In addition, is there anyone in Congressman Peter King's District? If so, what were the interview questions for that office. I understand that all candidates are scheduled for interviews there, regardless of your qualifications. Thanks for all of your help!

I requested a nomination from Clinton and Schumer on January 7, 2008. I still have not heard from them. Neither have sent me an apllication packet. on the same date, however, I sent the letter requesting a nomination to my Congressman and I recieved a packet containing instructions. Should I call Schumer and Clinton's office? Should I write them a letter? Should I just wait it out? Any input would be very helpful! When did everyone else apply for their nomination? When did you receive the materials? Thanks a lot!

I think you are a year ahead? Class of 2013 - right?

If you are a high school junior then you don't need to request application forms until the spring. Each MOC has their own application criteria and due date - usually the due date is in the fall.
Plan on starting the application in late spring - ask teachers for recommendations just before school gets out, work on your essays over the summer and submit the application in early fall.

In the meantime - continue to be an active participant in activites, athletics and do well in school.

prayingeagle,

I know that there are 2 people on CC who have received their noms, but they are for USMA and AFA. If you want one of those SA's try posting NY nom in the SA forum of CC. I believe it is even in today's postings for AFA about schummer.

Good Luck

For this year's nominations, Schumer and Clinton's deadline for application was November 1, 2007. As soon as you start your SA application process in the spring, go on the Internet to the Senators' website and see if the instructions for 2008 are up on the site. Keep checking until the current information is posted. You will have to choose your references carefully because the letters your references write will determine who they interview, along with your GPA, SAT scores.

Be sure when you apply that you follow instructions to the letter! They are looking for people who can follow directions. Good luck!

NY Senator Schumer nomination

Well, finally heard from Senator Schumer's office. I'm proud of my son's nomination to USNA from the Senator! Yeah!

Senators

My son just received a letter from Sen. Schumer indicating he received a nomination. The USNA website indicates that the nomination was issued on January 28--I don't know why the delay. He received a nomination from his Congresswoman as well. No nomination from Sen. Clinton (though he interviewed).

Clinton published her nominees: http://www.senate.gov/~clinton/news/statements/details.cfm?id=290299&&
Good luck to all.

Interesting that both of our sons had interviews with Sen. Clinton's office, but received no notice, even though they were unsuccessful in that nomination. Yet, the successful nominees' names were posted on her website on January 8.

Ironically, my son thought that the Clinton interview was the best of his three interviews. Yet, he got nominations from the other two sources. He received his letter today from Schumer's office, and the January 28 nomination just appeared today. Unhappy? Not at all! It has been a great experience for him!

Congrats on your son's success! And, Good Luck!
