Next wave of Appointments?

I'd love some theorizing here. Do you guys think there will be another wave this week, or sometime near April? Or maybe a trickle from here on out?
Sure hope so. It would be nice to find out where DS is headed. Would also be nice to secure airfare and hotel before prices skyrocket or flights/hotels are booked and no longer available.

By 3/19 last year, they had about 111 appointments compared to 120 this year.
From 3/24 to 4/4 2016, No appointments offered. From April to May last year they had about 27 more appointments offered. Let's hope they send out several more March selections this year.
Good luck to all who are still waiting! My DS included :)

This is one of my main reasons why I want to know as well!!

Sunsia, I think Insider answered this question last week. You might run a search for all of her/his posts...I don't know why I think Insider is a woman but this is what she wrote on the 14th of March:
'USAFA has completed the regular selections process. That means that most of the available appointments have been offered -- expect portals to update in the next day or so. For the next month USAFA will be back-filling some congressional vacancies and will be making additional prep school and Falcon Foundation offers (so there will be activity until the middle of April). After that there may be an odd offer or two, but it will be rare.

Non-select letters are generally sent after the majority of prep school and Falcon Foundation offers are complete. They are usually sent in mid-to-late April (but the timing varies).

- Insider'

I hope that helps. Do not give up hope as an individual--but I think it would be inaccurate to expect another wave like when West Point sent 500 acceptances at the same time in January. USAFA sent a wave of appointments on March 15th. I hope you have a robust other college acceptance and an Air Force ROTC scholarship...because it is important to know that you are going to go to school next year--and be happy and successful and figure out if reapplying or moving into a different comissioning pipeline is your personal best call. No one can make that for you--and USAFA may still come to fruition. I am cheering for you. Best wishes.

What Insider wrote is very interesting, and thanks for re-sharing it. I hold the p nom for my district, and the only thing that has come out of my district so far is a turn-down from my buddy. No one has been appointed from here yet, and since I have the principal, it makes me think that they are looking past me and at others. This wait is killer!!

Hello! Thank you for sharing the Insiders message. Does this mean our chances for an appointment moving forward are very so slim to none ? Also, on which thread did the insider post this.

I'm curious as to Insider's "inside" connection. The Academies pride themselves on keeping these processes and timelines quite tight lipped. Not that I don't want to believe he/she because it would be nice to have more news from the Academies sometimes; just dont want to blindly have our DS or DD hopes and dreams crushed too soon. Know what I mean?

I agree about not wanting to give up hope to soon but my DS and I have accepted the fact that it probably won't happen for him this year. It's tough to come to that realization but I think he really wants to know what he's doing come fall. He wants to accept his offer to his plan B school and prepare for that. I can't say I blame him as uncertainty causes anxiety as you know.

Until I get that TWE, I'm going to try and maintain my hope. My plan B is Air Force Reserves and college. I'm hoping with some military training, reapplying will be that much easier for next year!!!! JerseyGiant and RickD, are your DS's thinking about reapplying next year?

I'm not sure. I believe if he goes the AFROTC route, he'll stick with and follow through with it until the end.

Good Morning. Sunsia's question was: "Do you guys think there will be another wave this week, or sometime near April? Or maybe a trickle from here on out?"
I think Insider's previous comment answers that question. No reason to give up hope--but I think 'the wave' was on the 15th of March with a week prior for Congressional notification

USAFA2021, in the DoD, we use the expression FIO (Figure It Out). There is a search bar at the top right corner of the page--run a search for 'Insider' and you can see every comment made by that SAF member. If you are looking for some pre-academic military reading material to add to your book list, I suggest "Message to Garcia"--which is the ultimate tale about FIO and features heavily in Marine Corps education and training programs--a perennial on the book lists prepared by leaders.

I would not give up hope just because a wave came through and it missed you. The deadline is the 15th of April. Your individual chance has not changed. However, after April 15th, I would send that deposit to the No Ordinary Back Up School and program...and then hope that you end up losing your deposit because you get called on 15 June or 27 June with an offer of admissions.

Yes. Going to enroll in ROTC in college and do anything and everything to increase his chances for next year. I look at not getting in this year as a great learning experience. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Haha.

DS has already accepted and put deposit down at Plan B school. Just waiting to see what happens. If he gets an appointment we will drop everything and accept. This admissions/selections process is intriguing. Love to know what goes on behind the curtain at these admissions selections. It has to be a complicated process because most of these kids appear to have similar resumes/scores/sports etc... I'm familiar with difficult selection processes. I've coached and judged high school competitive cheer in Texas. :) A *That was SARCASM and a pitiful attempt to be humorous. :) Academy selections are on a whole different level than cheerleader tryouts. ;)

I don't know TexasSoccerMom, from what I have seen on t.v. those Texas Cheer Moms have a tough reputation...the admissions officials at USAFA are perhaps less worried about someone locking them in the stall in the ladies room or slashing their tires...

Cheer moms are harmless compared to Football parents. Friday night Tikes is all filmed in Texas. That's some serious business. [emoji2]
