NJ MOC Timeline and Competitiveness

My DS received a rejection letter today from Lance (NJ-07) in the mail

I don’t believe so. From looking back, it seems like senatorial nominations were not received until very end of Jan/ early Feb last year.

Aren't the senatorial nominations even more difficult to secure considering the larger amount of competition?

I would think so but it's actually ambiguous because it depends on how NJ does it. For example, say you're the best in your district and you get your congressman's principal nom. The senator then won't end up giving your their nom because you got it from someone else, so they'll end up going to the second person. If NJ's senators get second pickings after all of the congressional districts send their best, your competition may be easier because all of the best people were taken out of the pool by each district. Even though the sheer size is bigger, you may have a better shot. I assume it's kind of like early decision at a college; your competition via early decision is a smaller pool but tend to be the most competitive candidates so you may have a higher chance at getting in vie regular decision even though it would seem like the early decision is better.

If it goes the other way, the best two in the state will get the senators and then the rest get their congressmen which would make it harder to secure a nomination on both ends.

So I don't actually know how it'll work. I don't know who gets first dibs. I mean, you only have two spots for the senators anyways so as far as statistics go, its a lower chance regardless. But the competition may be easier.

For those who do not receive a nomination outright, NJ routinely places more Candidates than allotted to them. Congressional districts in other states which do not place a candidate become available. There are 12 Congressional districts in NJ and NJ often sends 50 or more to West Point.

Hey just received an email from Sen. Booker's office, they will be announcing beginning February through mail.
Got this yesterday as well

Good afternoon:

By now every candidate who submitted a complete application has received an in-person interview with members of our panel. If you have not, contact our office immediately. The panel has made their recommendations to Senator Booker, and you will be informed by mail in February whether or not you have received a nomination. If you have not received a letter by March, please contact our office. If you would like to be withdrawn from consideration, please inform our office by email.

If you have moved or need to update your address, log into your application and click on your name on the top right of the page. Click “Manage Profile,” and then edit your address. You may also edit your phone number the same way if necessary. Please also ensure that the mobile and home phone numbers you provided are correct and those of the applicant. Under no circumstances should the phone number listed be that of a parent or anyone else besides the applicant.

NJ06 came out minutes ago

Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that Congressman Pallone has nominated you to both the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Regrettably, we will be unable to offer you a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.

In the event that you are not appointed by the respective academy and wish to apply again next year, please contact our office in the spring.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and again, congratulations.

Maybe a senator is nominating me for the Naval Academy :)

I have a friend in NJ05 (he doesn't have an account on here) and was curious if anyone heard back from 05 moc. Thanks!

Just saw the recent posts, has anyone received a call from a NJ MOC about an appointment yet?

Have looked at the lists of appointments, nobody seems to have posted from NJ, jw wondering again if any appointment notifications have gone out in NJ?

Yea sorry guys I didn't want to say anything before I got the BFE because it wasn't totally official. Congressman Frelinghuysen called me on Thursday. Good luck to all of y'all, I want to see everyone here get in!
