NMMI AY12-13 Report Date Confusion

There is some confusion on the web about when Preps report to NMMI next year. Hopefully I can clarify, and appreciate the use of this forum to help get out the "facts".

The NMMI Service Academy Enrichment Program is only for sponsored preps at this time. Sponsored preps are asked to report on 2 AUG 12 for this training. The sponsoring Admissions Offices and Foundation Directors have all agreed that they want their preps in the program (an intense math refresher course).

Self preps/Free Agents will report on 8 AUG 12 with the rest of our college cadets.

While the number of sponsored preps is usually "fixed" in time for us to budget for the instructors, food, etc.; the total amount of self preps varies up until matriculation day. I am sorry we can't accommodate everyone in this program.

Once your application is processed (on line is preferred) the Admissions Office and Commandant will send out a series of letters, forms, and other items.

Right now the Commandant, and staff, is giving most of their time to our graduation next week. Once that is over, bringing the new folks in will be a priority.

I saw awhile back the announcement that NMMI’s sponsored preps are to report August 2 for the intense math refresher course. We’re from Ohio and are in the midst of planning a family road trip out to New Mexico to get DS there on time! :shake:What time is report time on August 2? On that day will there be any opportunity for the family to tour, meet with you, or should this be a drop-off only day? We received the mailing with the info. regarding the August 8 schedule for the Junior College Matriculation which included the parents’ campus tour and orientation times, but is there anything for parents of sponsored preps on the 2nd? Thanks for any info. on this!

Great questions! If you can get here on 1 AUG it is a much better time for us to meet and answer your questions. I will be making several trips to the airport and assisting with matriculation on the 2nd (busy day expected). The other important thing to understand is that once your son arrives here and signs in, he is no longer available to you.

If he does arrive on the 2nd we would like to have him here between 0800 and 1500. I know this is not possible for some folks due to flight scheduling, so the latest would be 2200.

The Parents Orientation on the 8th is primarily for the "normal" cadets and the vast majority of the program describes the "what-when-where" of matriculation. Since your son will already be matriculated by then (and you no longer have access to each other) I don't recommend any parents staying for the event.
