NMMI Self Prep

Hello everyone,

I was wanting some input on my choice to attend New Mexico Military Institute's self prep program for the service academies. I have seen other threads and information that says that USNA likes 4-year colleges over prep programs or other schooling options, but I have also heard that the NMMI program has turned out rates that are very high as far as appointments go. Any input is accepted.

The answer comes down to what was you initial application lacking and what will best benefit you.

If you have the maturity to handle a four year college, the academic background with strong grades and above average test scores and just got beat by a stronger candidate, going to a 4-year college is the recommended approach.

If you you academic foundation is not the strongest, your test scores are on the lower end of the spectrum, or there are questions about your maturity, a year at prep school can help all of those things.
