NO AFROTC ICSP or 2014 Field Training???

My detachment is down to 17 but still up from 12 last year. I am not sure how we have all applied whether tech, non tech or rated but numbers seem to be up this year all around.

Have the AS200's at your det already declared if they want to go for the rated or non-rated board? (for the non-techs)

If all of these posts, even from anecdotal perspectives, it appears that there are many more up for the board compared to last year, meanwhile the number of slots offered will be the same amount. If I am correct that means the rate is going to drop a lot from the 93% last year. More like the 55% rate from the years past.

We haven't even heard from our cadre anything about these new boards for tech, non tech, rated, and foreign language. Since our packages are going in by Feb 20-something and I don't think my Det would keep something like that from us, it makes me question the validity of this. Is this something that has actually been confirmed, and if so can you provide a document explaining the new guidelines for EA selection? Or is this just a rumor that your cadre have discussed without confirming it?

The thing is even if you remove the non-tech/non-rated perspective. Loom at other posters and the amounts of how many cadets are eligible this year compared to last year, basically 150-200%.
~~~ The number is staying the same that it has been for 5+ years. @2200-2300. UPI appears on this site the applicant pool is much larger, hence a lower chance.
The AF leans to tech majors. They have given an edge for scholarships, and for soft they gat an edge for cgoa (3.1 compared to 3.3/3.4 no tech).
This board impo is the most gut wrenching board, even when you compare it to scholarship or AFSC. This is the make or break.
Best thoughts, hopes and wishes that the time flies in a blink of an eye.
We were given a form 16 to sign stating that we acknowledge that there is a proposal for the rated non-tech board and that the tech, nursing, foreign language, and non tech boards are in fact going to happen. I am surprised that your detachment isn't giving you any information. Have they even talked to you about the EA board?
Pima
And IYPO would it be safe to assume that the 55% would drop even more knowing that max 6 will not be offered this year? or is there room to run the same number of cadets thru with just max 1-5?
Either way the point I was originally trying to make is for those middle to bottom third cadets that haven't got a plan B that they are content to live with NOW is the time to figure it out. I'm sure not all cadets will want to come back as a 500..
Not really, only said that this year is going to be pretty competitive in vague terms. Our initial meetings where they give us our rankings and talk about how competitive we are for EAs is coming up so hopefully we'll get some information then. But we haven't signed anything to acknowledge a change, which is what I think is weird.
DS said at their det the cadre told them in December that the rated/non-rated board for non-techs may happen but they haven't heard anything since then. I was just going off of what I heard on this forum.
The key word proposal
If you know your rankings within your detachment as well as your other stats you can get an idea of your competiveness by utilizing the formula which is found AFROTC136-2011 12 August 2013 page 144:
PSP Order of Merit (OM) Factors
FACTORS .......... WEIGHT
RSS (Note 1)........ 50%
Cumulative GPA.... 20%
PFA..................... 15%
SAT-E (Note 2)..... 15%
NOTES:
1. The formula for calculating RSS is
((1-R/C)+0.5/C)*10) Where R = DCR and C = Class size
2. The SAT-E is the best of the S.A.T.,ACT or AFOQT-AA converted to SAT-E used only for selection processing (see conversion chart on Attachment 21)
I should know this but thought I'd ask...if a scholarship candidate doesn't get selected for SFT do they have to pay back sophomore year scholarship $$$ or is it excused as long as they still met all other contracted criteria?
^^^^^^^^^ A very good question. I should probably know this also, but am not 100% sure on the answer. Hopefully someone here can give a definitive answer on that, but I'm glad you brought that up b/c that is something that I would like to ask my cadre this week.
According to my DD's Detachment Commander (when asked this question by another parent a year ago): As long as the cadet makes a sincere effort to succeed within the Detachment and academically, then NO they do NOT need to worry about reimbursement for their scholarship money. I have never heard of any cadet, that wasn't selected for SFT needing to re-pay any of his/her scholarship money. Now.....if you just quit after your Sophomore year has already begun, or during SFT.....then you could have some serious financial obligations.
Good Luck!:thumb:
Definitely reassuring considering DS is a non-tech major on scholarship wanting to go non-rated.
My DS just told me that they too lost cadets after the fall semester and are currently only looking for 68 EA slots.. down considerably from the 80+ last semester. No detail or explanation for the reduction in numbers.
Most likely two reasons for the numbers dropped.
1. The CoC has had the "talk" telling them that using last years numbers/stats and this years projection the chances of being selected were going to be low.
2. If they had any medical issues that would require a waiver, chances are the waiver would not come through in time.
I am betting it is more number 1 just by looking at it from the past few years when they jumped from a 55% rate to 93, but only offered 100 more slots.
DS said that they found out at LLab today that next week all cadets competing for an EA this year will have to sign a form indicating if they are going rated or not. Also cadre advised that there would be very few non tech/non rated EA slots awarded this year. Any other cadets from other Det's hearing the same news?
Enrollment Allocation. You have to earn an EA slot during your sophomore year in AFROTC to attend Field Training. If you don't get an EA, you will most likely disenrolled from the program. It's usually the make or break moment in AFROTC. You can google it to get more info.
